Take me back to 2018 NYC

... Read moreReflecting on my own experiences living in New York City during the late 2010s, I can truly relate to the excitement and thrill captured in this fashion journey. Back in 2018, NYC was not just a fashion mecca but a melting pot of expression and creativity, where popular retailers like Forever 21, Topshop, Bershka, and Urban Outfitters offered versatile options for every style enthusiast. During my time navigating the city's vibrant fashion scene, I discovered that thrifting and mixing high street brands with vintage pieces was a common trend. The use of chokers, platform sandals, and statement boots—like those mentioned alongside the Urban Outfitters jumpsuit and the nostalgic Beatles thrifted shirt—were everyday staples that gave an edgy yet accessible vibe to city style. What struck me most was the combination of practicality and trendiness needed to thrive in NYC, especially for interns or newcomers who had to walk miles while staying fashionable. Vans became my go-to footwear after experiencing the challenges of office or runway event shoes, highlighting the blend of comfort and style that city life demands. For instance, the anecdote about switching to Vans when working door duty at runway shows perfectly captures this balancing act. Similarly, the mention of the iconic SoHo flagship stores as a 'church' for fashion lovers resonates with me as these hotspots were not just shopping destinations but hubs of cultural inspiration. Adding to the narrative, NYC Fashion Week in July was always a whirlwind of excitement, where pushing boundaries and testing new trends were the norm. It was during these times that I found myself indulging in shopping sprees, much like the author's experience, stepping out in heels and outfits that made one feel like a star in their own city story. Lastly, reflecting on the evolution of fashion since 2018, it's fascinating to see how many nostalgic trends have cycled back into popularity, yet NYC remains the ultimate playground for anyone passionate about style. Whether it’s scoring thrifted Beatles shirts or rocking scarf tops from Forever 21, the city continues to inspire individuality and confidence in fashion choices.
