Book review 📚

Whew… this book had me hooked from the first chapter. Count My Lies by Sophie Stava is one of those reads that pulls you in fast and doesn’t let go. I definitely was shocked at the ending—like, jaw on the floor. I just sat there like, wait… what?? Sophie Stava really knew what she was doing with this one.

The characters felt real, like people you might actually know or side-eye in real life. The drama, the secrets, the way everything unraveled—I was fully invested. Every time I told myself “just one more chapter,” I ended up five chapters deep because I had to know what happened next. If you’re someone who lives for that “I need to know what happens” feeling, this is definitely the book for you.

Down to the very last page, it kept me guessing. And that twist? Let’s just say I’m still thinking about it. 👀

... Read moreOkay, so you've heard about "Count My Lies" by Sophie Stava and are probably wondering if it's really that good. Let me tell you, as someone who devours thrillers, this one genuinely stands out. When I picked it up, I was immediately drawn to the cover – that intriguing image of a hand with splayed fingers against dark teal knitted fabric gives off such a suspenseful vibe, hinting at the secrets hidden within. And let's not forget Liane Moriarty calling it 'the very definition of a page-turner!' – she wasn't wrong! What makes "Count My Lies" a must-read? It's not just the shocking ending, though that's a huge part of it. Sophie Stava has a masterful way of building tension right from chapter one. You're not just reading a story; you're pulled into a tangled web of secrets and past betrayals that feel incredibly real. The characters aren't your typical good-versus-evil archetypes; they're complex, flawed, and utterly human. You'll find yourself questioning everyone's motives, even those you initially trust. This isn't a book where you can easily spot the villain from the start, and that's what Sophie Stava excels at – keeping you guessing until the very last word. The narrative structure keeps you on edge throughout. Stava cleverly sprinkles clues and red herrings, making you feel like you're piecing together a complex puzzle alongside the protagonist. Every time I thought I had it figured out, another layer of deception would unravel, completely shifting my perspective. It's the kind of psychological thriller that gets under your skin, making you think about it long after you've put it down. You'll find yourself replaying scenes in your mind, searching for what you might have missed, which is a sign of truly immersive storytelling. If you're a fan of domestic thrillers where family dynamics and hidden truths are at the core, "Count My Lies" will be right up your alley. It explores themes of trust, loyalty, and how far people will go to protect their secrets, or themselves. Sophie Stava doesn't shy away from uncomfortable truths, making the drama feel authentic and impactful. The emotional stakes are incredibly high, and you genuinely care about what happens to these characters, even as you suspect them. The way she crafts their backstories and interweaves their present-day struggles makes for a rich, compelling read. And that plot twist… oh, that plot twist! Without giving anything away, it’s one of those rare moments in fiction where you physically gasp. It wasn't just a surprise; it completely recontextualized everything I had read before, forcing me to rethink the entire story. It's skillfully executed, not just for shock value, but because it feels earned within the narrative. If you cherish books that challenge your assumptions and leave you truly stunned, then adding "Count My Lies" by Sophie Stava to your TBR pile is an absolute no-brainer. It's an unforgettable journey into deception and discovery that I wholeheartedly recommend – be prepared to have your mind blown!

So here are my honest thoughts on the book so far: 📚The biggest win for the author is that she easly transitions well between timelines. Throughout the book she jumps timelines often giving us background information on each character she does this seamlessly! I’m also a squirrel and get confused

Ooh yes! Love @alihazelwood as usual! This book features a perceived enemy and is kind of a slow burn, mainly because the protagonist, Rue, lacks emotional awareness. But I love a #greenflag guy! Some reviews say they don’t like this book as much as her others, but I kinda like it more. There
