Don’t read this book… 🫣

Okay… after reading this, I don’t think I trust my own child anymore 😭. Baby Teeth is WILD. Like, “my eight-year-old might be trying to end me” kind of wild.

This book had me questioning everything—parenthood, motherhood, little girls with big eyes and bigger secrets. Zoje Stage really went THERE. You’ve got Suzette, the mom who’s trying so hard to love a kid who literally wants nothing to do with her, and Hanna, the daughter who is… not okay. Like, not even a little bit. At all.

It’s one of those stories that messes with your head. You keep thinking, “There’s no way this child is doing this on purpose,” and then BOOM—she absolutely is. I was stressed, creeped out, and hooked all at the same time. Also lowkey Googling if this could really happen.

The writing keeps a good pace, and the way it shifts between mom and daughter’s POVs makes it even more unsettling. It’s not your average creepy kid story—it digs into some deeper stuff like the complexities of motherhood, generational trauma, and what it really means to love someone who feels unlovable.

Would I recommend it? Yes, if you’re into psychological thrillers that make you want to sleep with one eye open 👀. Just maybe don’t read it alone at night… or near any playgrounds.

... Read moreBaby Teeth, a USA Today bestseller by Zoje Stage, captivates readers with its eerie portrayal of a seven-year-old girl named Hanna, who harbors dark secrets and sinister intentions toward her mother, Suzette. The novel is notable for its dual perspective narrative, alternating between Suzette’s desperate attempts at motherhood and Hanna’s chilling mindset. This approach intensifies the psychological tension and invites readers to question the nature of innocence and evil. The theme of deceptive sweetness runs throughout the book, as the outwardly charming child conceals a disturbing inner world. This complexity challenges traditional perceptions of childhood and motherhood, presenting an unsettling exploration of generational trauma and emotional estrangement. The narrative also probes the boundaries of love when confronted with hostility and detachment within family bonds. Baby Teeth stands out within the psychological thriller genre by combining elements of suspense, family drama, and psychological depth. Readers are engaged not only by the plot's twists but also by the emotional struggles experienced by the characters. Suzette's perspective highlights the challenges many parents face when trying to protect and connect with a child who resists affection or exhibits troubling behavior. The book prompts reflection on real-life situations where difficult parent–child relationships test the limits of empathy and patience. Its unsettling realism explains why readers might find themselves searching for similar stories or researching the plausibility of such dynamics, as the reviewer in the original article did. For those drawn to themes of psychological suspense with a strong emotional core, Baby Teeth offers a compelling read that lingers long after the last page. It is ideal for readers who appreciate intense, thought-provoking stories about the shadows within family life and the complexities of human behavior.
