I mean, my initial experience was incredible; I was completely engrossed, turning pages furiously in my car (just like when I snapped that photo of my current reads!). For me, it was genuinely a page-turner that delivered on suspense and kept me guessing until the very end. But then the question pops into my head: would I pick it up again? And more importantly, what makes a book like this less likely for some readers to revisit? I think a big part of it, especially for mysteries and thrillers, is the reveal. Once you know the twists, once the 'whodunit' is solved, that initial jolt of surprise and suspense is gone. The magic of figuring it out alongside the protagonist, Laura Blacklock, is a huge draw, and it’s a feeling that’s hard to replicate on a second read. The intricate plotting and misdirections that made the first read so captivating might feel a bit less impactful when you know where they're leading. Another aspect could be the intensity. 'The Woman in Cabin 10' is quite a tense read, full of psychological suspense and a somewhat unreliable narrator. Sometimes, a story that puts you through the wringer emotionally or mentally is fantastic for that first dive, but you might not feel compelled to experience that same level of anxiety again. It’s like watching a really intense movie; you love it, but you don’t necessarily want to feel that stressed every time you watch it. For me, the journey was fantastic, but the destination, once reached, feels complete. Also, character connection plays a role. While Laura is a compelling protagonist, her struggles and the confined setting of the cruise ship are very much tied into the immediate mystery. Some books have characters you want to revisit just to spend more time with them, regardless of the plot. For thrillers, the plot is often king, and while the characters serve it well, they might not always be the primary draw for a re-read. I think it really boils down to what you seek in a re-read. If you're looking for subtle clues you missed, or to appreciate the author's craftsmanship, then maybe. But if you're chasing that original rush of discovery, thrillers like this one are designed for a powerful first impact. It's not a flaw of the book at all; it's just the nature of the genre. It was a fantastic current read, and I loved every minute of it, but I totally get why some might categorize it as an unforgettable one-time journey rather than a frequent re-read classic. It's still a #MustRead for me!
