The Silence I have Become

The Silence I Became

A Poem by Severin Blackthorn

My dear Shadows,

There are wounds that never bleed where the world can see them. They bleed inward—into memory, into sleepless nights, into the quiet places where names become echoes. This is not the silence of peace. It is the silence born after betrayal, after illusions collapse, after the last prayer goes unanswered.

Some people lose love.

Others lose the voice they once used to believe in it.

This is the silence I became.

VERITAS SUPRA ILLUSIONEM

Truth Above Illusion.

This kind of emotional silence is something many people experience but rarely express openly. Often, the pain caused by betrayal or lost love leads not to an outward cry but a quiet, enduring ache that can feel isolating. In my own life, I have faced moments when words failed me, and the silence that followed was heavy with unspoken sorrow and shattered illusions. What struck me about this poem is how it captures the complexity of grief—not just the loss of someone or something but the loss of the very voice that once gave us hope and faith. This silence is not peaceful; it is dense with the echoes of what could have been. The poem's phrase "Veritas Supra Illusionem" (Truth Above Illusion) is a powerful reminder that beneath the facades we maintain, the raw truth of our experiences waits to be acknowledged. Embracing this truth, as difficult as it is, can be a step toward healing. The layering of silence, darkness, and truth in the poem aligns with a universal human struggle: confronting what we fear to feel and finding our way through it. Blackthorn's work also highlights the often misunderstood art and community of dark poetry, which can serve as a vital outlet for those grappling with pain and complex emotions. Unlike typical social media content that favors lightness and constant distraction, dark poetry invites us to feel deeply and connect authentically with our shadows. If you find yourself haunted by silent wounds or seek art that honors those difficult feelings, engaging with poems like "The Silence I Became" can provide both solace and a sense of shared humanity. It encourages us to listen carefully—not only to others but to the quiet spaces within ourselves where true healing begins.
