Sometimes protecting your peace means putting down a burden that was never yours to carry.

In my own journey toward protecting my peace, I've found that recognizing which burdens belong to me—and which do not—is a crucial step toward emotional and spiritual healing. For example, guilt is something I often carried far longer than necessary, thinking I was responsible for everything around me. Learning to lay down that guilt helped me to focus on my own well-being without feeling selfish. Another common weight that many people struggle with is overthinking and worrying about 'what-ifs.' These worries tend to drain energy and distract from living fully in the present. I began practicing mindfulness and setting boundaries around my thoughts to quiet the inner critic that often fuels these endless cycles. It's also important to acknowledge that some problems belong to others, and trying to fix them all is unrealistic. Accepting that change is a personal choice others must make allows us to release control and reduce stress. For me, spirituality played a significant role in this process. Trusting a higher power or simply believing in a bigger plan helped me surrender anxiety and uncertainty. By focusing on spiritual growth and protecting my peace, I'm better equipped to navigate life's challenges without carrying unnecessary emotional burdens. Ultimately, laying down these weights—whether they be guilt, pain, others' problems, or overthinking—frees up mental and emotional space for joy, creativity, and genuine connection. I encourage everyone to reflect on what they can lay down today to protect their peace and nurture their personal growth.
