From my own experience within the LGBTQ+ community, I’ve realized that the intersection of politics and personal identity is not only inevitable but crucial. While some call to 'keep politics out of it,' the reality is that our healthcare access, legal protections, and basic rights continuously appear on political ballots and agendas. I once wished politics wouldn’t interfere with my daily life, but over time, I saw how crucial political engagement is to preserving dignity and equality. For example, debates around gender identity and marriage equality directly affect relationships and mental health. Without advocacy, these rights could easily be rolled back or ignored. Moreover, the phrase "when politicians stop talking about people like me, I'll stop having opinions about politicians" resonated deeply with me. It shows how personal policies motivate community activism. Staying informed and speaking up has allowed me and many others to protect not only our own futures but also foster greater inclusion and understanding in society. Therefore, instead of avoiding politics, embracing it as a tool for social justice is empowering. Every election or legislative session impacts real people’s lives—our health, our souls, our right to live authentically. Supporting LGBTQ+ rights means recognizing these connections and staying vocal and active in political discourse to ensure continued progress and freedom for all identities.
