Nightmares and Sins of Elm Street
In a quiet little town, a street called Elm Street, houses were quiet and had the laughter of children, but when the Dark Times turned it into a dark poem, the name of "it" was written side by side with the name of the street in terror, "Freddy Cooker."
Before it became a nightmare, it used to be "Manu." It is said that it was raised with violence, imprisoned, abused until the mind twisted. Terror, and that became the only language it used to communicate with the world, it began to accumulate its own nightmares until it finally exploded into cruelty. Many children to many disappeared, and when the truth was revealed, the villagers were furious, they chased Fraddy until the abandoned factory, doused it with oil and set it on fire, amid screams echoing throughout the city... And that night, "The Nightmare of Elm Street" was born. Years later, the pab that everyone kept in the bottom of the past came back to kill people. Elm Street was a sleepless street, for in times of intimidation, the sound of sharp iron on the walls resounded again...In that dream, the escape route was terror and death.
"One, two, Freddy will come to you.
Three, four, lock the door..."
The playback catchphrase becomes a curse and the nightmare never ends.

ถ้าคุณกำลังหา “หนังสยองขวัญ” ที่อ่านแล้วรู้สึกหนาวๆ คอแบบไม่ต้องมีฉากเลือดสาดเยอะๆ แนว Elm Street คือคำตอบที่ดีมาก เพราะความสยองของเรื่องนี้ไม่ได้อยู่ที่ผีโผล่ใส่หน้าอย่างเดียว แต่อยู่ที่ “ความฝัน” ซึ่งเป็นพื้นที่ที่เราคิดว่าปลอดภัยที่สุด พอเรื่องเล่าพาเราเข้าไปอยู่ในฝันเดียวกับตัวละคร ความรู้สึกมันจะคล้ายๆ ว่าเราหนีไม่ได้จริงๆ ต่อให้ตื่นก็ยังไม่แน่ใจว่าตื่นจริงไหม สิ่งที่ทำให้บรรยากาศสยองขวัญของ Elm Street เด่นมากคือภาพจำของ Freddy Krueger—หมวก ใบหน้าไหม้เกรียม เสื้อสเวตเตอร์ลายทางแดง-เขียว และกรงเล็บเหล็กที่แค่ “เสียงขูด” ก็ทำให้ใจหวิวได้แล้ว พออ่านไปถึงช่วงที่เมืองเหมือนเก็บอดีตไว้ใต้พรม แล้วมันค่อยๆ กลับมาทวงคืน ความรู้สึกมันจะเป็นแนวหลอนสะสมมากกว่าหลอนปุ๊บปั๊บ อีกจุดที่เราชอบในหนังสยองขวัญแนวนี้คือการใช้ “กลอนเด็กเล่น” มาเป็นตัวจุดชนวนความกลัว แบบ “One… Two… Freddy’s coming for you” เพราะของที่ควรไร้เดียงสากลับกลายเป็นสัญญาณอันตราย พอมันโผล่มาเมื่อไหร่ เราจะเริ่มระแวงทันทีว่าเรื่องเลวร้ายกำลังจะเกิด ทำให้จังหวะการอ่านสนุกขึ้น เหมือนโดนบังคับให้ค่อยๆ นับถอยหลังไปหาความสยองเอง ถ้าคุณอยากเริ่มอ่านหนังสยองขวัญให้ “หลอนแบบมีเนื้อเรื่อง” เราแนะนำให้ลองสังเกต 3 อย่างระหว่างอ่านแนว Elm Street: (1) กติกาของความฝัน—อะไรทำให้ตัวละครอ่อนแอ (2) สัญญาณเตือนซ้ำๆ เช่น เสียงกรงเล็บ กลอนเด็ก หรือเงาบ้านบนถนน (3) บาดแผลในอดีตของตัวร้าย เพราะยิ่งเรื่องเล่าค่อยๆ เผยที่มา ความน่ากลัวจะยิ่งติดอยู่ในหัว ทริคเล็กๆ สำหรับสายอ่านหนังสยองขวัญให้ได้อารมณ์: ลองอ่านตอนกลางคืนแบบเปิดไฟสลัวๆ หรือเปิดเสียง ambience เบาๆ แล้วเว้นจังหวะตรงประโยคสั้นๆ ที่ทิ้งท้าย จะเพิ่มความระทึกมากขึ้น (แต่ถ้ากลัวฝันต่อ แนะนำอ่านตอนเย็นแทน!) สุดท้ายแล้ว Elm Street เป็นความสยองที่เล่นกับ “การหลับ” และ “ความฝัน” ได้คมมาก อ่านจบแล้วบางทีแค่ได้ยินคำว่า Elm Street ก็เหมือนมีเสียงเหล็กแหลมลากผ่านกำแพงดังขึ้นมาเฉยๆ
