Breakdown down the cost of my treatment over $300,000

Hey SGFC Fam!

Was going through my emails last night and saw my advisor who sent me an excel previously to tabulate the entire cost of my claims.

And I realized, my entire cost of treatment was more than $300,000.

I’m not a FA, and I’m not asking you to buy insurance but I’m sharing my thoughts on how lucky I felt that I didn’t had to worry about the cost because I got myself covered.

Most of the adults that I’ve coached always scrutinize how much money they earn but put little efforts into protecting their health and wealth.

Though I know it’s a painful process to pay for insurance, get it over and done with!

... Read moreNavigating the complexities of cancer treatment costs can be daunting, especially when faced with bills exceeding $300,000. During my treatment journey for Stage 2B Classical Hodgkin's Lymphoma, I underwent 12 chemotherapy sessions, which alone cost approximately S$215,820, alongside other expenses such as treatment administration, supportive care drugs, biopsies, hospital stays, and PET scans. These add up quickly, and without insurance coverage, the financial strain would have been overwhelming. From personal experience, securing health insurance is one of the most vital steps you can take not only to safeguard your health but also to protect your financial future. My hospitalization insurance covered 100% of these costs—a legacy plan no longer available today—which spared me from paying a single dollar out-of-pocket. Additionally, my wife's company insurance helped expedite the Letter of Guarantee necessary for treatment. Many adults focus predominantly on earning income but neglect protecting what they have earned. Insurance premiums may seem like a painful expense, but when unexpected health issues arise, such as cancer, they can be a lifesaver. Waiting until a sudden illness strikes inevitably leads to greater challenges and higher costs. It's important to recognize that treatment costs can vary greatly depending on the hospital, doctors, and specific care required. In my case, choosing a private hospital and a preferred haematologist meant higher costs but also access to excellent care, which I valued immensely during a stressful time. I encourage everyone to look beyond the immediate expense of insurance and consider the peace of mind it offers. Cancer treatment took just six months but generated medical bills that could buy property. Ask yourself, how long would it take you to save $300,000? Being prepared before a health crisis hits makes a significant difference. Ultimately, protecting your health is protecting your wealth. Life doesn't pause while you get ready, so take intentional steps toward securing your future. Sharing my story is not about selling insurance but about raising awareness that being proactive in financial and health planning is crucial. It allowed me to focus entirely on recovery without the additional stress of financial worry, and I hope it inspires others to prioritize their protection as well.
