Say bye to dry eyes

I didn’t expect an eye cream to take away something as basic as… opening my eyes comfortably.

A few months ago, I went through one of the worst periods of my life.

Severe dry eyes.

Not the “a bit uncomfortable” kind.

The kind where it hurts to keep your eyes open.

The kind where working long hours becomes impossible.

The kind that slowly chips away at your quality of life.

I couldn’t function properly.

I went to an ophthalmologist, got prescribed Restasis, even had punctal plugs inserted to help retain moisture.

At one point, I genuinely thought—

“Is this a side effect from my implantable collamer lens surgery years ago?”

Then came a question that changed everything:

“Are you using any skincare products with retinol?”

I went home. Checked my products.

And there it was.

The eye cream I had been applying daily for 3 months from Elizabeth Arden…

contained retinol.

Something I never thought twice about.

Something marketed as “anti-aging” and “good for fine lines.”

But what I didn’t know was this:

Even when applied around the eyes,

retinol can migrate into the eyes.

And for some people, it can severely disrupt the tear film—

leading to intense dryness and irritation.

I stopped using it.

And slowly… things improved.

I’m sharing this because if you’re struggling with dry eyes—

and nothing seems to make sense—

👉 Check your skincare.

👉 Check your ingredients.

👉 Especially anything near your eyes.

Sometimes the cause isn’t obvious.

Sometimes it’s something we trust blindly.

Take care of your eyes. You only get one pair.

... Read moreMany people use retinol products around their eyes for anti-aging benefits without realizing it can cause dryness or irritation. Retinol can migrate into the eyes and disrupt the natural tear film, leading to uncomfortable symptoms like burning, redness, and difficulty keeping eyes open. If you’ve been battling persistent dry eyes that don’t respond to typical treatments, it’s worth reviewing your skincare, especially eye creams or serums with retinol or other strong active ingredients. Even products marketed as mild can negatively affect sensitive eye areas. In addition to stopping retinol, consider using gentle, hydrating eye gels or artificial tears recommended by eye specialists. Avoid rubbing or exposing your eyes to harsh environments like wind or air conditioning, which can worsen dryness. Consult an ophthalmologist if symptoms persist, as there may be underlying conditions, but don’t overlook your skincare routine as a cause. I learned the hard way that what’s advertised as anti-aging might actually harm your eyes when used improperly. Sharing my experience in hopes it helps others find relief and protect their vision.
