oof I messed up a bit
Okay, so I thought I was a seasoned survivor in State of Decay 2, but let me tell you, plague zombies still manage to send shivers down my spine. I had this one epic fail recently where I totally underestimated a horde, and ended up with half my community infected! It was a real 'oof, I messed up a bit' moment, but I learned so much from it, and I want to share my hard-won knowledge so you don't make the same mistakes. First, let's talk about why these guys are such a threat. It's not just their speed or numbers; it's the blood plague. Get hit a few times, and your survivor is infected, slowly dying and eventually turning unless you cure them. That's why tackling them requires careful planning. My go-to strategy usually starts with scouting. I try to identify the size of the horde and any nearby plague hearts. For smaller groups, stealth is your friend. A headshot with a suppressed weapon or a quick, heavy melee attack can take them down without attracting too much attention. But for larger clusters, especially around a plague heart, sometimes you just have to go in guns blazing. My personal favorite loadout? A good shotgun for crowd control – nothing clears a path like buckshot – and a solid bladed weapon for quick, silent takedowns when things get personal. Don't forget explosives for those unexpected clusters; Molotovs and pipe bombs are brilliant for clearing out plague hearts and the zombies guarding them. And speaking of plague hearts, these are the real headaches! I always try to clear the surrounding area first, picking off stragglers. Then, I hit the heart with Molotovs or pipe bombs. Usually, three can do the trick on standard difficulty. If you're feeling brave, a heavy weapon can work too, but be ready for the swarm of zombies it attracts. This is where you really obtain plague samples by killing the infected. After that heart goes down, make sure to loot every single one; those samples are essential for crafting plague cures, which brings me to the next point. Getting infected is almost inevitable in State of Decay 2. Always carry a couple of plague cures on you or your active survivor. I usually have one or two survivors specializing in medicine to craft them quickly back at base. It's a literal lifesaver and can prevent a valuable community member from turning. I've noticed that keeping my community's morale and skills high, especially in areas like medicine and combat, really helps. It feels like my 'Citizen Crees' (my community members) become more resilient and effective; their skills increased in and greatly improved when we focus on training and resource management. A strong, well-equipped community means better defense against outbreaks and less panic when a survivor inevitably gets infected. It's tough out there in the apocalypse, but with these strategies, you can turn those 'oof I messed up' moments into 'I totally dominated that plague heart' victories!
