DECLUTTER WITH ME PT 1‼️

I finally decided it was time to bite the bullet and declutter my closet once and for all! It felt daunting, but trust me, the peace of mind you get afterwards is totally worth it. First things first, I pulled everything out. Yes, *everything*. It sounds extreme, but seeing every single item laid out really helps you grasp the scale of what you own. This is where the real decision-making starts. I used the "keep, donate, toss, or relocate" method: Keep: Only items that fit well, make you feel good, and you wear regularly. Be honest with yourself! If you haven't worn it in a year, it's likely time to let it go (unless it's a special occasion item). Donate: Clothes that are still in good condition but you no longer need or want. Think about local charities or consignment shops. Toss: Anything stained, ripped beyond repair, or completely worn out. Relocate: Items that don't belong in your closet – maybe a book, old receipts, or accessories that should be elsewhere. Once I had my 'keep' pile, it was time to start thinking about closet organizing ideas. I realized a lot of my closet issues stemmed from not having designated homes for things. Here’s what worked for me: Categorize Everything: I grouped all my tops together, then bottoms, dresses, activewear, etc. Within those categories, I even separated by style (e.g., long-sleeve, short-sleeve). Hang Strategically: Use slim, velvet hangers to save space and prevent clothes from slipping. Hang items you wear frequently at eye level. Fold Smartly: For items like t-shirts, sweaters, and jeans that don't need to be hung, I adopted a vertical folding method. This allows you to see everything at a glance without digging through piles. Marie Kondo was onto something! Utilize Drawer Dividers: For smaller items like socks, underwear, and accessories, drawer dividers are a game-changer. No more rummaging through a jumbled mess! Now, let's talk about closet organizers ideas. This is where you can really optimize your space. I invested in a few key items that made a huge difference: Shelf Dividers: These are brilliant for keeping folded stacks neat and preventing them from toppling over. Perfect for sweaters or jeans. Clear Bins/Baskets: For items you don't use often, like seasonal accessories or extra linens, clear bins allow you to see what's inside without having to open them all. I used some for scarves and hats on my top shelves. Shoe Rack/Shelves: Getting shoes off the floor instantly makes a closet look tidier and creates more space. I opted for a vertical shoe organizer that hangs on the back of the door. Command Hooks: Don’t underestimate the power of these! I used them on the inside of my closet door for belts, small bags, and even some necklaces. Stackable Bins/Drawers: If you have vertical space, stackable fabric drawers or plastic bins can create extra storage for activewear or loungewear. The biggest takeaway from my closet declutter journey? It's not a one-time event. To maintain an organized closet, you need to create habits. I try to do a quick tidy-up once a week and a deeper declutter every season. And before I buy anything new, I now ask myself: 'Do I love it? Do I need it? Does it have a home?' This really helps prevent new clutter from creeping back in. Happy decluttering!
