... Read moreHey everyone! You know those days when you want to look put-together but seriously don't have the time or energy for a complicated hairstyle? That's exactly when my go-to half-up space buns come to the rescue! I've been absolutely loving this look lately, especially for my 'off duty' days or when I'm just running errands. It's such a fun and versatile style that adds a playful edge to any outfit.
For me, it's all about that perfect balance of casual cool. I usually pair my space buns with a comfy dark jacket, maybe some denim, and my favorite accessories – sometimes even showing off my facial piercings if I'm feeling extra bold. It just completes that effortless, yet stylish, 'OOTD' feel. And trust me, it’s a lifesaver when I’m on the go, like when I’m still in the seatbelt, heading out the door!
So, how do I achieve this look? It’s surprisingly simple! First, I start with dry hair – sometimes second-day hair works even better for grip. I then part my hair horizontally, usually around the top of my ears, separating the top section from the bottom. The bottom section can stay down, or you can loosely curl it for extra volume.
Next, I take the top section and divide it right down the middle, creating two smaller sections. These will be your buns! I usually grab one section and twist it into a small bun, securing it with a hair tie. Don’t worry too much about perfection; a slightly messy bun often looks more chic and natural. Repeat on the other side, trying to get them as symmetrical as possible, but again, a little asymmetry adds character! Once they're secured, I gently tug at the loops of the buns to give them a bit more volume and that fluffy, lived-in look. Sometimes, I even pull a few face-framing pieces out to soften the look.
Now, for some space bun ideas to really make it your own! If you have split-dyed hair like mine, half-up space buns are fantastic for showcasing both colors. You can have one color prominently in the bun and the other flowing down, creating a cool contrast. For a more playful vibe, consider adding some glitter or small hair accessories, like lightning bolt pins, around the base of the buns. For a sleeker look, you can use a little hair gel or pomade to smooth down any flyaways before twisting.
Another fun idea is to braid the sections before twisting them into buns – a French braid or Dutch braid leading into the bun can elevate the style. Or, if you're feeling adventurous, try doing mini braids or twists in the hair that's left down. It really adds to that 'Off Duty Style' aesthetic.
The best part? This style works for so many occasions. Whether you're heading to a casual brunch, a concert, or just lounging at home, half-up space buns are a cute and comfortable option. They keep your hair out of your face but still give you that stylish flair. It's truly become one of my favorite quick OOTD hacks. Give it a try, and let me know how you style yours!
