I’m a little late to the news, but I’m so excited, and incredibly surprised to see Okami’s sequel has been announced, by Hideki Kamiya himself! I frequently paint Amaterasu and have beaten the game multiple times across the PS2, Wii, and Switch. To think this beautiful and unique game finally gets a new entry is a rare dream come true. So, to celebrate, here’s a painting I made a few months ago, but I’m so excited that I might make a new one in the coming week!

Okay, so I know I already posted about it, but I just can't get over the fact that Okami 2 is officially happening! It feels surreal, right? For anyone who hasn't played the original (and seriously, you should!), Okami isn't just a game; it's a masterpiece. The cel-shaded art style, inspired by traditional Japanese sumi-e ink painting, is absolutely breathtaking. Every frame looks like a living painting, and the way the Celestial Brush mechanics let you literally draw on the screen to solve puzzles and attack enemies? Revolutionary! I remember first picking it up on PS2, then falling in love all over again on Wii with the motion controls, and now having it on Switch is just perfect for replaying. It's the kind of game that sticks with you long after the credits roll, with its epic tale of Amaterasu, the sun goddess in the form of a white wolf, bringing life and color back to a world cursed by evil. The characters, the humor, the folklore—it’s all so rich and wonderfully crafted. So, with Okami 2 on the horizon, my mind is buzzing with possibilities! What do you all hope to see? I'm personally hoping for more intricate Celestial Brush techniques, maybe even some new forms for Ammy! And of course, a continuation of that stunning art direction. I'd love to see new regions inspired by different aspects of Japanese mythology and perhaps a deeper exploration of some of the secondary characters. The announcement has really reignited my passion for creating Okami-inspired art. I've spent so many hours trying to capture Amaterasu's spirit. The painting I shared, with Amaterasu, the white wolf, with her iconic red markings and those piercing yellow eyes, surrounded by soft pink cherry blossoms, really embodies the beauty of the game for me.
