When I started on this art book project, I really wanted to showcase the diversity and wonder of mermaids, pushing beyond just one look. You'll notice in my illustrations a mix of themes and styles, from the serene dark-skinned mermaid with flowing purple hair and glowing yellow stars, to the vibrant green-skinned mermaid adorned with colorful flowers, perched by a waterfall – each one telling its own story. I absolutely love experimenting with digital art, and tools like IbisPaint have been incredible for bringing these visions to life. It allows for so much flexibility in playing with colors, textures, and underwater effects. Sometimes I start with a simple sketch, and other times, an idea just pops into my head, like crafting a mermaid with a whimsical jellyfish-like hat, her chest glowing with rainbow colors, or giving another a fun strawberry top and having her swim playfully with a friend. The possibilities are endless when you're creating your own fantasy creatures! The anime aesthetic also heavily influences my designs, bringing a unique flair to each character, especially when thinking about 'mermaid dress art' and overall styling. If you're an aspiring artist looking to dive into mermaid art, my biggest tip is to just start drawing! Don't be afraid to experiment with different scales, tails, hair colors, and even skin tones. Think about the environment your mermaid lives in – is it a vibrant coral reef, a mysterious deep-sea trench, or a mystical freshwater lake? This can inspire unique details for their appearance, like the glowing jellyfish surrounding one of my white-haired mermaids, or the specific poses they strike to convey emotion.
