Night in my life as an Ump!

Being an umpire in baseball requires sharp instincts, quick decision-making, and a deep understanding of the game. From my perspective as a woman in a traditionally male-dominated role, each game presents unique challenges and rewarding moments. Officiating at night often means adjusting to different lighting conditions and staying alert amid the energy of the crowd and the fast pace of the game. Throughout my journey, I've learned that gaining respect on the field isn’t just about enforcing the rules, but also about building trust with players and coaches. Many may underestimate the difficulty of umpiring, but the reality involves constant focus and balancing fairness with confidence. It’s empowering to contribute to the game’s integrity while breaking stereotypes about women in sports roles. Long nights spent in the heat of the game have strengthened my communication skills and resilience. I’ve seen firsthand how diverse voices enrich baseball and how opportunities for women are gradually expanding. Whether calling strikes or making tough calls, every night brings new lessons and proves that passion and perseverance are key to thriving as an umpire regardless of gender.
