... Read moreMy recent trip to Milan wouldn't have been complete without visiting the incredible Duomo di Milano! Standing before this magnificent Gothic cathedral, one of the largest in Europe, was truly a breathtaking experience. I've always seen pictures, but nothing prepares you for its sheer scale and intricate details in person. It felt like stepping back in time, and I definitely had a MOMENT OF PRAYERS, or at least a moment of profound awe, inside its hallowed walls. This famous Milan cathedral isn't just a church; it's a masterpiece of architecture and history. Construction started way back in 1386, and it took nearly six centuries to complete! Imagine the dedication. Its distinctive Gothic style, with countless spires, statues, and gargoyles, is unlike anything else. You'll find over 3,400 statues adorning the exterior alone – talk about incredible artistry! It’s this rich history and detailed craftsmanship that really makes the Duomo di Milano so important and famous worldwide. It truly dominates the Duomo area in Milan. If you're planning to visit Duomo Milan, here are a few tips from my trip. Firstly, booking your tickets online in advance is a game-changer. The lines can get incredibly long, especially for the rooftop access. And trust me, you have to go up to the rooftop! The panoramic views of Milan are spectacular, and getting up close to the spires and statues is an unforgettable experience. There are two ways to get up: stairs (cheaper, good workout!) or the lift (quicker, but a bit more expensive). I opted for the stairs and felt a real sense of accomplishment! Inside, the sheer vastness of the nave is striking. Take your time to appreciate the stained-glass windows, which tell biblical stories with vibrant colors. Don't miss the crypt and the treasury if you have time, offering more insights into the Duomo di Milano information and its sacred past. I also learned some specific Duomo facts during my visit that blew me away, like how the Madonnina, a golden statue of the Virgin Mary, sits atop the tallest spire, protecting the city. To make the most of your visit to this iconic landmark, I'd recommend going early in the morning to avoid the biggest crowds, or late afternoon for a beautiful sunset view from the rooftop. Also, remember to dress respectfully, as it is an active place of worship. After exploring the cathedral, take a stroll around the Piazza del Duomo, soak in the atmosphere, and maybe grab a gelato! Visiting the Duomo in Milan, Italy, was definitely a highlight of my European adventure, and I hope these tips help you have an equally amazing time!
