Fasting Journey Update
I know everyone isn’t a fan on fasting but I want to share why I am an advocate.
So, I haven’t weighed myself since day 4 of this fast, but progress is being made! My goal range is 130-135 lbs. I’d like to provide some background. Last December, I was around 160 lbs. I took a picture of myself and literally didn’t recognize who I saw. In that moment, I decided I was going to change.
A little while after that, I watched a sermon by Pastor Mike Todd about gluttony and how it’s the devil’s favorite sin because it’s a gateway sin. Unlike adultery, gluttony isn’t seen as unacceptable. People tend to overlook it and don’t realize it’s a sin that leads to other sins because it stems from a lack of self-control and dying to the flesh. That was when I realized my struggle with weight was actually a spiritual attack.
I started working out, and shortly after, the annual fast I do with Transformation Church came up. Instead of choosing just one thing to fast from, I decided to do the full Daniel Fast to practice saying no to my flesh, regain my self-control, and rely on God as my strength.
I’m so blessed to have had this journey! Fast forward to year 4 of fasting in general, but year 2 after that realization, and now I have my eyes set on my goal weight. More importantly, my relationship with God is stronger than ever.
While it’s not a dramatic improvement or large amount of weight loss I feel like the spiritual growth I experienced from this is huge.

Fasting has gained significant attention for its potential health benefits and spiritual significance. People engage in fasting for various reasons, including weight loss, detoxification, and drawing closer to God. The Daniel Fast, rooted in biblical principles, emphasizes fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, providing a nutritious way to fast and renew one's faith. Incorporating fasting into your life can also foster self-discipline, improve mental clarity, and enhance emotional resilience. Many find that fasting becomes more than just a dietary choice; it turns into a life-changing practice that bolsters both physical and spiritual wellness. As you embark on such a fast, consider setting spiritual goals alongside your physical ones, building a robust support system within your faith community, and embracing the transformative power of vulnerability throughout your journey. Whether you're a seasoned faster or exploring the path for the first time, remember that every journey is unique, and what's crucial is the intent behind your actions. Focus on the personal growth that comes from challenging yourself, both physically and spiritually, through fasting.
