For me, I want the story to be honest. However, most YA books that I love are closed door. When it comes to adult or new adult, open door is more common. But this series has been compared to Off Campus meets Boys of Tommen.
Now, books can be categorized like TV or Movie ratings. If the subject is PG, then it’s definitely closed door. But if the story leans into R rated for themes unsuitable for individuals under 17, then you can open the door. It might even be expected.
I knew from the beginning, the ResLife series would be open door when necessary. It’s part of the character’s development. But I also wanted balance with some of the darker elements of the story.
Take Me With You is an introduction to this slow burn, forbidden romance.
Book 2: Into Secret Places things get heated in the best way.
... Read moreReading the ResLife series has been a refreshing journey for me, especially as someone who appreciates authenticity in romantic storytelling. Many YA books tend to lean towards closed-door narratives, which, while appropriate for younger readers, sometimes miss the depth of adult experiences. This series breaks that mold by embracing an open-door approach where necessary, making the emotional stakes feel much more real and grounded.
What I particularly enjoy is how the books balance tenderness and complexity. The comparison to series like Off Campus and Boys of Tommen made me curious, and the ResLife books lived up to that expectation by providing characters who grow and face challenges together. The slow burn romance is handled with care, allowing the relationship to unfold naturally.
The OCR phrases, "He makes her feel... Safe and seen" and "She makes him feel... Everything," really resonated with me. It highlights the deep emotional connection that goes beyond just physical attraction. It’s this kind of emotional honesty that sets the series apart and enriches the story.
If you’re a fan of romance that doesn’t shy away from exploring darker or more complicated themes, then the balance struck in this series will appeal to you. The gradual escalation from the gentle introduction in "Take Me With You" to the heat and intensity in the later books feels organic. It mirrors how real relationships can evolve—marked by yearning, forced proximity, and passionate moments.
For readers seeking a mix of sensuality, emotional depth, and character-driven storytelling, the ResLife series offers a satisfying reading experience. It’s a reminder that sometimes, to feel a love like this, the story needs to be both honest and unafraid to open the door to real human complexities.
