solopreneur-ing part 2
Why did I decide to do this?
It took me the whole of last year to really think about it and weigh the pros and cons of leaving my job to try and chase my dream full time. At that time I was already questioning myself - why put in a 101% to work for a millionaire in another country when I can put in that 101% to work for myself instead?
At the start of 2025, my wife and I decided that I should give it a try now because at least we have no dependents and liabilities to pay for, so now would be the best time. So with blessings from my wife and family, together with the hope of what could be possible, I left my comfortable full time job and started my solopreneur journey.
So far, I’ve been enjoying it. There’s ups and downs (more downs than ups) but it’s everything I dreamed of. It does get tough, it does get stressful, but that just pushes me to work harder and smarter.
I can’t wait to see what happens in a year’s time. Whether I’m mildly successful or still struggling, it’s definitely a journey worth being on.

Starting a solopreneur journey is never easy, especially when you decide to make that leap under unique personal circumstances, such as venturing into business after your spouse becomes bedridden. This situation adds emotional and logistical challenges, but it can also provide new motivation and purpose. Many solopreneurs find flexibility the biggest advantage, allowing them to manage their time around caregiving responsibilities. From my own experience, balancing work and personal life while supporting a loved one requires developing strong time management skills and seeking support when needed. Choosing the right type of business plays a critical role in managing these challenges. Home-based or online businesses often grant more control and adaptability. Some have found success in freelance services, digital marketing, or e-commerce, which can be scaled as circumstances change. Moreover, networking with others in similar situations has been invaluable. Sharing experiences and tips not only lessens feelings of isolation but also opens doors to collaborations and new opportunities. If you are considering this path, I recommend planning carefully and staying patient through the inevitable ups and downs. Remember, every step forward counts toward building something meaningful while managing personal hardships.
