Don’t fall for the bull 💩

Intermittent fasting is not recommended for active women and most studies are done on men.

Eating too few calories can cause you to store fat.

The scale doesn’t know if it’s weighing muscle or fat so you can’t hinge your “success” on that number.

To get bulky you have to actively train most-all days of the week, lifting a lot heavier than you probably are, eating a ton of food from high quality sources, and so much more. It won’t happen by accident.

Building muscle and losing fat makes you toned. Lift heavy, eat right.

You don’t need a booty sprout or a thigh master or anything else. You just need weights to get started.

Your body needs food. As does your brain.

Everyone’s priorities, genetics, life, etc are not the same so our progress won’t be either.

Train each muscle group at least twice a week and you can see major changes.

Moral of the story: lift heavy, get your steps, try to eat whole foods, eat a ton of protein, get good sleep, and keep your mindset locked in.

There’s no gatekeepers here!

... Read moreIt's wild how much fitness information (and misinformation!) we encounter daily, especially scrolling through social media. Sometimes it feels like there's a new 'secret' workout or diet trend popping up every other week, right? I know I've definitely fallen down the rabbit hole myself, trying to decipher what's legit and what's just, well, fitness propaganda I'm not falling for anymore. The original article really hits the nail on the head with its direct, no-fluff advice, and I wanted to add a bit more on why cutting through the noise is so crucial for real progress. One thing that still gets thrown around a lot is the idea that intermittent fasting for active women is the holy grail for fat loss. While it might work for some, from my experience and what I've learned, it can actually be counterproductive for active women who need consistent energy for their training and recovery. Skipping meals often means you're not getting enough fuel, impacting performance, hormones, and potentially causing your body to hold onto fat. It's a prime example of a concept oversimplified and applied universally, when individual needs vary wildly. Then there's the age-old myth: lifting heavy makes you bulky. Oh, how many times have I heard this! I used to be so scared of picking up anything heavier than a light dumbbell. But trust me, building significant muscle mass takes a lot of dedicated effort, specific training, and a huge caloric surplus – way more than what most women do in a typical gym routine. Lifting heavy (with good form!) is one of the best ways to build lean muscle, which is essential for that 'toned' look and boosting your metabolism. It's about strength and shape, not accidental bulk. And can we talk about worrying about the scale? Seriously, that number can mess with your head like nothing else. I’ve been there, letting a fluctuating number dictate my entire mood. But the scale doesn't tell you the whole story. It can't differentiate between muscle, fat, or water. Focusing solely on the scale often leads to unhealthy habits like starving myself (<1400 cal), which is unsustainable and detrimental to your health. How your clothes fit and your strength gains are far better indicators of real progress. In my journey, I've seen countless trends come and go – from specific keto or any restrictive diets that promise rapid results, to any gimmick equipment advertised as a shortcut. These often lead to frustration and rebound because they're not sustainable. The real magic happens with consistency in fundamental practices: eating mostly whole foods, adequate protein, prioritizing sleep, and consistent weightlifting. It’s less glamorous than a quick fix, but it delivers lasting results. It's easy to get caught up in specific numbers or routines you see online – whether it’s aiming for a certain number of reps, like how "7 reps" might get talked about, or a particular workout split. Sometimes these get turned into viral challenges. But the real takeaway is that while these can be fun or inspiring, they shouldn't overshadow the consistent effort in the gym and kitchen. Focus on progressive overload, proper form, and listening to your body, rather than getting fixated on arbitrary numbers or fleeting trends. Finally, let's ditch the mindset that health/fitness is all or nothing. It's a journey, not a destination. There will be good days and bad days, perfect workouts and skipped meals. What matters is showing up consistently and making choices that support your goals most of the time. Don't fall into the trap of comparing myself to others. Embrace your unique journey, celebrate small wins, and remember that real, sustainable fitness comes from understanding your body and building habits that serve *you*, not some fleeting online trend.
