I decided to put this video together to raise awareness for the existing Indigenous American restaurants around the U.S. and to raise awareness that there are so few and most of us don’t have one in our city/state.
I was able to gather this list thanks to the comments and conversations from my Thanksgiving video/photos about Owamni. Please note that all of the restaurants on this list have varying levels of Indegenous cuisine offered, might be the entire menu to just a few items.
*Apologies in advance if I made any mistakes, I’m still learning and taking feedback 🙏

Indigenous American cuisine is an important but often overlooked part of the American culinary landscape. As this video highlights, there are few Native American restaurants across the U.S., making it vital to raise awareness about these establishments and support their growth. Many of these restaurants offer different levels of Indigenous cuisine, from a few signature dishes to full menus celebrating Native flavors and traditions. One well-known example includes Owamni by The Sioux Chef, which has sparked new interest in Indigenous foods and culinary heritage. Following such pioneers, places like Javelina and Wahpepah's Kitchen have also contributed to bringing Native American cultures into the spotlight through distinctive dishes rooted in history. Native American cuisine emphasizes local, seasonal ingredients like wild rice, maize, beans, squash, berries, and game meats, each deeply tied to Indigenous culture and the land. Many recipes have been passed down through generations but are now blending with contemporary cooking techniques to appeal to a broader audience. By sharing and supporting these restaurants, individuals can help preserve Indigenous traditions and encourage more chefs and communities to celebrate their culinary heritage. Whether you try a dish featuring traditional ingredients or learn about the history behind the recipes, you’ll get a richer, more authentic taste of Native American culture. Moreover, the scarcity of these restaurants highlights the need for greater representation and accessibility in the food industry. Expanding knowledge and patronage of Indigenous food venues can contribute positively to cultural preservation and economic empowerment. If you’re passionate about food and cultural diversity, following Native American food creators on social platforms or visiting these restaurants when possible is a meaningful way to engage. Sharing your experiences can also help grow the community and inspire others to learn more about Native American cuisine and traditions.
