I got my book!
Even though I actually love billing and coding, Studying has been so hard for me and sometimes I still feel like I don’t understand. If anybody has any tips or advice I’m open to receive them.
Studying medical billing and coding, especially using the AMA CPT 2025 Professional Edition, can indeed feel overwhelming at times. The CPT codebook is a crucial resource that contains all the official procedure codes alongside rules and guidelines established by the AMA's CPT Editorial Panel. To make your study sessions more effective, it helps to break down the content into manageable sections and focus on understanding the rationale behind each code's usage rather than simply memorizing numbers. Many learners find that combining different study methods boosts retention. For example, use flashcards to memorize key codes, participate in online forums or study groups to exchange tips and answer questions, and complete practice coding exercises regularly to apply what you’ve learned. The official AMA CPT codebook also includes explanations and examples that clarify complex coding rules – reviewing these carefully can build your confidence. It’s common to face challenges when starting out, so maintain a consistent study schedule and don’t hesitate to reach out to experienced coders or instructors for guidance. Incorporating real-life case studies and hypothetical billing scenarios can further deepen your understanding. Additionally, staying updated on any annual changes in the CPT codes is important to keep your knowledge current. Remember, patience and persistence are key. With steady effort and the right strategies, your comprehension of billing and coding concepts will improve, enabling you to excel in your certification or professional duties.

I have found that if I chew gum when I study and then chew the same flavor of gum when taking a test over the material I can recall more. Don’t know why but it works for me.
