Oh my goodness, if you're planning a trip to the Polynesian Cultural Center in Hawaii, you have to save some time (and budget!) for the gift shops! I just got back from my visit, and let me tell you, the shopping experience there is an adventure in itself. Forget your typical tourist trap souvenirs; the PCC gift shops offer such a wonderful array of authentic and unique Polynesian products that truly capture the spirit of the islands. When I first walked in, I was immediately drawn to the beautiful handcrafted items. They have incredible wood carvings, from intricate tikis to functional bowls, each telling a story. I spent ages admiring the delicate shell jewelry – necklaces, bracelets, and earrings that would make perfect gifts or a lovely memento for yourself. I even found some gorgeous pearl pieces, which felt so special and unique to the Pacific islands. Beyond the traditional crafts, there's a fantastic selection of apparel. Think vibrant Hawaiian shirts, comfortable sarongs, and cute t-shirts for the whole family, all with designs inspired by Polynesian cultures. I picked up a lovely pareo that I can't wait to wear as a beach cover-up! And for the foodies out there, prepare to be delighted! They have a section dedicated to local treats and flavors. I grabbed some delicious Kona coffee, macadamia nuts (of course!), and some unique tropical fruit jams. These make for perfect edible souvenirs to share with friends and family back home, giving them a taste of Hawaii. What I really appreciated was the variety. Each 'island' village within the PCC often has its own small shop with items specific to that culture, which is so cool! For example, in the Samoan village, you might find more traditional artwork or specific tools, while the Fijian area might have kava bowls or woven mats. It encourages you to explore every corner. My top tip for shopping at the PCC gift shop is to take your time. Don't rush through it! Browse, talk to the staff (they're often very knowledgeable about the products' origins), and look for items that truly resonate with you. I found that some of the smaller, less expensive items, like a beautifully painted magnet or a small carved token, held just as much meaning as the larger purchases. It's all about finding something that reminds you of the incredible experience and the rich Polynesian heritage you've encountered. It’s genuinely one of the best places to find unique tropical treasures and bring a piece of Hawaii home with you!
