📝✨ Journaling with Jesus — Day 5 ✨📝

Choosing What You Think About

What are you allowing to occupy your mind?

Taking every thought captive isn’t just about rejecting negative thoughts, it’s also about intentionally choosing what deserves your attention.

Philippians 4:8 gives us a beautiful filter. Is it true? Noble? Right? Pure? Lovely? Admirable? Worthy of praise?

Just like our bodies need nourishment, our minds need the right kind of nourishment too. What we repeatedly watch, listen to, read, discuss, and meditate on can shape the way we think and live.

Today, pause and ask yourself:

🌿 What has been feeding my mind lately?

🌿 What needs to be removed?

🌿 What godly things can I intentionally add?

🌿 What will I choose to focus my thoughts on today?

You have a choice about what receives your attention. Fill your mind with God’s truth, and allow His Word to shape your perspective.

Today’s declaration:

“I choose to set my mind on things that honor God.”

Like our bodies, our minds indeed require proper nourishment, and the input we allow—whether through media, conversations, or our own reflections—can either uplift or weigh us down spiritually. Philippians 4:8 offers a powerful filter to evaluate our thoughts: Is it true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, or worthy of praise? Applying this filter daily encourages me to be selective about what I consume mentally and emotionally. For instance, instead of dwelling on worries or negative news, I try to replace those thoughts with scripture, prayers, or uplifting stories that align with God’s truth. One practical method I use is journaling as prompted in this study. Writing down what I’m feeding my mind and what I need to remove clarifies my mental and spiritual state. Sometimes, I uncover habits, like excessive news consumption or negative self-talk, that need change. Then, I intentionally add godly practices, such as prayer, worship music, or reading devotional passages. This practice not only renews my mind but also brings peace and strength to face daily challenges. I’ve found that by setting my mind on things that honor God, I experience less anxiety and more confidence in my walk of faith. It’s a continual process—choosing every thought—but one that deeply impacts my spiritual growth and overall wellbeing. If you’re starting this journey, I recommend creating a simple routine: pause, pray, write, reflect, and renew, just as suggested here. Over time, you’ll notice how mindfulness over your thoughts can lead to lasting transformation and a closer relationship with Jesus.
