Stay (Poem by me)

I have been through a lot.I have been through things that I haven't told anyone. Because of the things that I've been through, I have an EXTREMELY hard time trusting people.

I know you're thinking,

"yeah, I do too!"

but for me it's to the point where I

question every little thing that someone

says, and I overthink everything to the

max. Along with this, I put my guard up.

When I meet someone who is as nice and

sweet , my automatic instinct is,

NO. GET AWAY. I'M GOING TO BE

BROKEN AGAIN! I know this is bad. I'm

working on it. I'm trying. But when this

happens, it's nothing personal, and I don't

want anyone to think it is. GOD all I want is for someone to stay, but my anxiety tells me otherwise. Please don't be angry; but I know this is going to happen a lot. It's just who I am. When I push away, I just want someone to please stay. Stay.

Those who have faced trauma often grapple with maintaining relationships, fearing the risk of being hurt again. This poem beautifully encapsulates the struggle of wanting closeness while battling inner demons. It's crucial to understand that anxiety can often distort our perceptions of others’ intentions, leading to a cycle of fear and isolation. Moreover, studies reveal that building trust takes time, especially for those with a history of trauma. Engaging in open, honest conversations with loved ones can pave the way for deeper connections. Mindfulness practices, such as meditation, can also help manage anxiety, fostering a more secure environment for relationships to flourish. Additionally, seeking support from mental health professionals can provide individuals with tools to aid in their journey of healing. It's important to remember: feeling alone in these struggles is common, but reaching out and seeking connection with others can help dismantle the barriers that keep us isolated. This journey of understanding and expressing one's feelings is vital for personal growth and the cultivation of fulfilling relationships.
