Unwanted by Dawn Darling is a dark comedic paranormal romance.
This is the first book of Dawn's that I have read, and it won't be my last. This is one of those books I don't want to give any spoilers away so I will just say I was pulled in from the beginning and couldn't wait to see how it was all going to play out. I really enjoyed the twists throughout the book.
I would recommend this book if you're looking for a dark romance, paranormal romance, or romantic comedy.
... Read moreAfter finishing 'Unwanted' by Dawn Darling, I found myself thinking a lot about what makes a book truly unforgettable, especially in the vibrant world of paranormal romance. This isn't just any romance; it's a dark comedic paranormal romance, and let me tell you, it's a delightful blend that hits all the right notes.
For anyone who's curious about dipping their toes into this specific subgenre, or if you've already found yourself captivated by stories that seamlessly merge the spooky with the hilarious and the heartfelt, 'Unwanted' is a fantastic entry point. What does 'dark comedic paranormal romance' even mean? Well, picture this: you get the thrilling, often intense stakes that come with supernatural elements – think vampires, demons, witches, or other mythical beings (without giving anything away here!). But then, just when things might get a little too heavy, a sharp, witty line or an absurd situation pops up, making you laugh out loud. This isn't a lighthearted fluff read; it tackles more serious or edgy themes, but it always keeps a twinkle in its eye, never letting the darkness completely consume the fun.
The 'dark' aspect often means exploring characters with complex pasts, maybe even morally gray choices, and delving into conflicts that have real consequences. But the 'comedic' part ensures there's a balance, often through clever banter, situational humor, or characters who simply refuse to take themselves too seriously, even when facing otherworldly threats. And of course, the 'paranormal' provides that escapist magic, building worlds beyond our own with unique rules and enchanting creatures. Add a compelling 'romance' at its heart, and you have a recipe for something truly special.
From the moment I saw the striking cover for 'Unwanted' – that shadowy devil silhouette, the bold neon pink text, all hinting at something devilishly fun – I knew I was in for a wild ride. It perfectly encapsulates the book's energy: a little bit dangerous, a little bit playful, and absolutely captivating. Dawn Darling has a knack for pulling you into her narrative without relying on cheap tricks. The twists aren't just there for shock value; they genuinely propel the story forward and keep you guessing, making it incredibly hard to put down. I literally devoured this book, eager to see how every piece of the puzzle would fit together.
If you're someone who appreciates a protagonist with a strong voice, a love interest who's intriguing and perhaps a little bit forbidden, and a plot that consistently surprises you, then 'Unwanted' should definitely be on your radar. It’s perfect for those evenings when you want to escape into a world brimming with magic and mystery, but also need a good laugh and a heartwarming (or perhaps deliciously dark) love story. Don't be afraid to try this genre if you haven't before; 'Unwanted' is a brilliant example of how seamlessly these elements can intertwine to create a truly unputdownable experience. I'm already looking forward to exploring more of Dawn Darling's work!
