The Apple Pencil feature everyone is sleeping on.
Did you know you can assign your Apple Pencil’s squeeze gesture to launch any Shortcut?
In this video, I’m showing you how to set your Apple Pencil to open a Shortcut with a simple squeeze.
My Shortcut opens a quick menu that lets me:
• Add an event to Apple Calendar
• Add an event to Google Calendar
• Create a Reminder
This is especially helpful if you use a digital planner that isn’t integrated with your calendar apps. Instead of searching for links or switching between apps, you can launch your favorite Shortcut from anywhere in your planner.
Note: This video is only showing how to use the Apple Pencil squeeze gesture to launch a Shortcut. It doesn’t cover how to build the Shortcut itself.
💬 Want a tutorial on how I created the Apple Calendar and Google Calendar shortcuts? Let me know in the comments, and I’ll make that video next!

As someone who uses the Apple Pencil daily for planning and organizing, I found that assigning the squeeze gesture to launch a Shortcut truly changed how I interact with my iPad. It eliminates the constant switching between apps and the hassle of navigating through menus. By customizing the squeeze gesture, I can quickly add calendar events or reminders without interrupting my workflow. One tip I found helpful is to create a Shortcut with a quick menu offering multiple actions, similar to the example described. This way, you gain flexibility—whether adding an event to Apple Calendar or Google Calendar or creating a Reminder, it’s instantly accessible with just a squeeze of the Pencil. The setup is straightforward once you understand how to link Shortcuts with the squeeze action. Moreover, this feature is especially useful for users of digital planners that don’t integrate natively with calendar apps. Instead of hunting for links or toggling through different apps, the squeeze gesture acts as a universal shortcut launcher, saving time and reducing friction. I highly recommend exploring Apple’s Shortcuts app to tailor your needs. While the original video doesn’t cover building the Shortcut itself, numerous tutorials are available to guide you through creating these personalized actions. Once you set it up, the time saved throughout the day is remarkable. In my experience, this underrated Apple Pencil feature significantly boosts productivity and keeps your digital planning seamless and intuitive. If you’re into maximizing your iPad organization, definitely give this a try!
