Ice cream cone cupcakes
I started baking as a hobby last year. It is relaxing and fun to do with my 3 year old.
When I first started baking last year, I was looking for fun, stress-free recipes that my 3-year-old could help with, and that's how I stumbled upon ice cream cone cupcakes! They quickly became a family favorite because they’re not just delicious, but also incredibly cute and surprisingly simple to make. It’s such a relaxing and joyful activity, perfect for a rainy afternoon or preparing for a little party. So, how do you make these adorable treats? It’s honestly easier than you think! You’ll need a box of your favorite cake mix (any flavor works, but vanilla or chocolate are classics!), some flat-bottomed ice cream cones, and your usual cupcake ingredients like eggs, oil, and water. I usually preheat my oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a muffin tin with aluminum foil. This little trick helps the cones stand upright and prevents them from toppling over in the oven – a lesson I learned the hard way once! Prepare the cake batter according to the package directions. Now, for the fun part: filling the cones! Don’t overfill them, or you’ll have a bubbly mess. I find that filling each cone about two-thirds full is just right. This allows the cupcake to rise nicely without spilling over. Carefully place each filled cone into the muffin tin. Baking time is usually around 18-22 minutes, but it varies depending on your oven and batter. You'll know they're done when a toothpick inserted into the center of a cupcake comes out clean. The smell alone is enough to get everyone excited! Once they're out of the oven, let them cool completely on a wire rack before frosting. This step is super important to prevent your beautiful frosting from melting into a sticky puddle. My go-to is a simple buttercream, but store-bought frosting works perfectly too! Decorate them just like you would a regular cupcake – sprinkles, cherries, or even a mini chocolate chip "flake" all make them look extra special. Now, what about transporting these delicate delights? This was a challenge for me at first! I quickly learned that a regular cupcake carrier isn't ideal because the cones are taller. My best tip is to use an old egg carton or a sturdy box with holes cut out to fit the cones. You can also find specialized ice cream cone cupcake holders online or at party supply stores. If you’re traveling a short distance, a muffin tin covered loosely with foil or plastic wrap can work, but make sure they don’t tip over! For longer trips or warmer weather, chill them thoroughly before transport, and keep them in a cooler if possible. This helps the frosting stay firm and prevents any major mishaps. Making these has brought so much joy to our home, and my little one loves decorating them. It’s a fantastic way to spend quality time and end up with a delicious, impressive-looking treat that everyone loves. Give it a try – you won't regret it!

How did the cones hold up during baking? Did the texture change?
