Brunette>Blonde💖

in 2020 I went to a hair school to get my hair done. The girl who had been bleaching my hair for the previous 2 years couldn’t do my hair and salons werent accepting new clients due to covid so I didn’t know where else to go besides a beauty school. I wanted to save money and maintain my blonde.

The girl DESTROYED my hair. She did a full cover bleach with minimal toner and my hair was destroyed. At the time I had AWFUL social anxiety and tbh it was probably my fault… By the grace of god my mom’s stylist fixed the mess but I developed trauma to blonde hair and experienced extreme breakage from my roots to ends. I had to grow my hair out for 2 years and dye it to my roots color to cover the damage. At the end of 2022 I dyed my hair this dark brunette and fell in love with it. Lately I have been wanting to go back blonde. My boyfriend, friends, and family think I look the best with dark hair. I agree to an extent..

- My eyebrows and lashes with no makeup look ridiculous bc they’re a dirty blonde color naturally. I tried dying them…

- When I had blonde hair I never used the correct products and was very lazy with upkeep. I would put the work in this time around.

- When my hair was blonde i typically would lightly fill in my eyebrows and do mascara. I didn’t KNOW how to do my make up. I feel like I would have that same “wow” effect that I have with my dark hair’s makeup this time.

- I found a VERIFIED blonde specialist in my area (she actually is very well known @/hairbylexidawn). I have full faith that someone with her popularity in the blonde community could handle my hair just fine.

- I NEVER used box dye for my dark hair.

- I think I look brightened and more full of life with blonde hair. It’s what I want. If I hate it I can go back to my dark hair… I know that my bleached hair won’t hold the color well but that’s a risk I am willing to take.

What do you guys think I should do?

... Read moreDeciding whether to go blonde or stay brunette has become a huge internal debate for me, especially after my past hair disaster. You know that saying, 'Blondes have more fun'? Well, based on my 2020 experience, I’d argue that sometimes, blondes don't have more fun, especially when a bad salon experience leaves your hair completely 'destroyed.' For two years, I had to grow out my hair, covering the trauma with my 'natural roots' color, until I finally embraced 'freshly dyed dark brunette hair' in June 2024. And honestly, I've loved it. Being brunette has simplified my routine immensely. No more worrying about brassiness, less product, and my hair feels so much healthier. My 'eyebrows and lashes' finally blend in without makeup, which was a huge relief compared to when I had 'long, light blonde hair' in 2019. I used to be so lazy with upkeep, not using the correct products, and my makeup skills weren't developed enough to really make the blonde pop. With dark hair, I feel like I finally have that 'wow' effect, and my makeup looks more cohesive. But here's the thing: the allure of blonde is still there, isn't it? It’s what I *want*. I see 'Inspo pic #1' and 'Inspo pic #2' of beautiful blonde hair, and I just feel like it brightens my complexion. This time, I’m approaching it completely differently. I’ve found a 'verified blonde specialist' – someone with a great reputation, and that gives me so much confidence. I know a 'bad salon experience' can be traumatic, but I’ve learned my lesson about cutting corners or going to unverified places. If you’re considering a big hair transformation like me, here are a few things I’ve learned and questions I’m asking myself: Research, research, research! Don't just pick any salon. Look for specialists in the color you want. Check reviews, portfolios, and ask for consultations. My previous mistake was trying to save money at a beauty school, which, in hindsight, was a risk I wasn't prepared for. Be brutally honest about upkeep. Are you truly ready for the commitment? Blonde hair, especially, requires specific shampoos, conditioners, masks, and heat protectants. Are you willing to invest the time and money? I know I wasn't before, but I am now. Consider your natural features. How will the new color complement your skin tone, 'natural roots,' and 'eyebrows and lashes'? Sometimes a drastic change can make you feel washed out or require a complete makeup overhaul. Have realistic expectations. Show your stylist 'inspo pics,' but understand that your hair's history, current condition, and natural undertones will influence the final result. Going from 'freshly dyed dark brunette hair' to blonde is a huge process, often requiring multiple sessions. Prepare for the worst, hope for the best. What's your fallback plan if you hate it or if there's damage? Knowing you can go back to your 'dyed hair' color, even if it means temporary issues, can ease some anxiety. I’m accepting that my previously bleached hair might not hold color well, but it’s a risk I’m willing to take this time around, knowing I’m better prepared. Ultimately, this is my hair journey, and I want to feel amazing in my own skin. While my friends and family love the brunette, this decision is for me. What do you think about making such a big change?
