Hospital bag essentials (third time Mom approved)

After two babies going into the third one, I know exactly what I need in my hospital bag. I know what brings me comfort, what the hospital provides that works fine, and what I prefer to bring myself because the quality is just better.

I bring my own pads and slipper, socks, nipple cream to make breast-feeding and pumping more comfortable and soft pajamas for after birth.

I also plan to bring my own birthing gown because the ones at the hospital are a joke.

Simple things like Chapstick and hand-cream make you feel human again after giving birth.

Read morePacking the perfect hospital bag is key to a smooth and more comfortable postpartum experience, especially for third-time moms who know exactly what the hospital provides versus what needs to come from home. From my personal experience, some lesser-known but highly valuable items to include are a pair of flat claw clips or hair scrunchies, which help keep hair out of your face without discomfort—traditional claw clips can be a pain when lying down. Headphones are a game-changer during labor and recovery. Hospitals can be noisy and chaotic, so bringing headphones allows you to listen to calming music, focus, or block out distractions to get some much-needed rest. Also, don’t underestimate the importance of bringing your own nipple care essentials like nipple butter or silver nursing cups—these are lifesavers for breastfeeding moms to soothe and protect sensitive skin. Loose, stretchy clothing is essential whether you have a natural birth or a C-section; tight clothes can cause unnecessary discomfort. Slip-on shoes or slippers are non-negotiable because hospital floors are often less sanitary than you expect. Grippy socks provided by hospitals are typically thin and low quality, so bringing your own slippers ensures warmth and protection. Additionally, long phone charging cords are a must-have since hospital outlets are often in inconvenient locations. For skin and lip care, fragrance-free hand cream and lip balm help combat the hospital's dry environment. Brands like La Roche-Posay Cicaplast are highly recommended for gentle hydration and repair. Bringing your own birthing gown is also a smart move; hospital gowns tend to be ill-fitting and uncomfortable. Overall, being well-prepared and packing these thoughtful items can transform your hospital stay from uncomfortable and stressful to cozy and empowering.
