Word of the year: Extra

QOTD: What’s your word of the year for 2026?

Word of the Year 2026: Extra ✨📚🐩

So this happened completely by accident… kind of…

In one of my recent stories, while explaining that we are basically turning our entryway into a poodle shrine, I joked that my word for 2026 might be “Extra.”

And then I paused and realized I was not joking at all.

The more I sat with it, the more it made sense.

Not just funny-extra.

Not just dramatic-extra.

But intentional, joyful, unapologetic Extra.

By definition, extra means added to an existing amount. Excessive. To a greater extent than usual.

But when I think about it, I’m thinking of the version where it’s over the top, doing the most, and always noticeable.

In 2026, I am being unapologetically nerdy 🤓, aggressively enthusiastic about the things I love 📚, louder about supporting others and myself 💖, confident first and always, and extremely okay with doing the most.

I’m carrying this energy into my posts, my outfits, my home, my reading life, and everything else this next year. If it brings me joy, it gets amplified. If it makes me light up, it stays.

Here’s to 2026.

Here’s to being Extra on purpose. ✨🐩📚

How do we truly 'abide in our word' throughout 2026, making it more than just a fleeting resolution? For me, with 'Extra' as my chosen guide, it’s all about intentional, joyful integration into every corner of my life. And I believe these tips can help you live out your word, whatever it may be! First, make your word visible and tangible. I literally surround myself with 'Extra' reminders. My home is becoming a reflection of this maximalist aesthetic – think a sunlit room filled with personality, from plush toys on my bed to a Harry Styles poster adding a pop of fun. My white bookshelves aren’t just for books; they're packed with Funko Pops and character backpacks, turning my reading space into a vibrant, 'extra' sanctuary. When you see your word, or things that embody it, you’re more likely to live it. Next, **define what 'abiding' truly means for your specific word. For 'Extra,' it means consciously choosing enthusiasm, leaning into my passions (like my reading life!), and being unapologetically myself. It means doing the most when it brings me joy, not shrinking back. If your word is 'Calm,' abiding might mean building quiet moments into your day. If it’s 'Growth,' it could mean seeking out new learning opportunities. Get specific! Then, incorporate your word into daily practices. This doesn't have to be grand gestures. For 'Extra,' it might be choosing a bolder outfit, adding an 'extra' cozy blanket to my reading nook, or dedicating more time to that book I'm loving. It’s about asking yourself: "How can I embody my word right now?" Small, consistent actions build momentum and solidify your commitment. Finally, be patient and kind with yourself.** There will be days when your word feels distant. That's okay! The goal isn't perfection, but persistent effort. Just acknowledge it, recommit, and find a small way to bring your word back into focus. Remember, living by your word for 2026 is a journey of self-discovery and intentional living. By actively "abiding in your word," you’re not just carrying a concept; you’re shaping your entire year. Here’s to a truly transformative and 'Extra' 2026 for all of us!
