Walmart is NOT pet friendly!

This was 1 of 4 times we were almost attacked last night on a 15 minute outing at Walmart. It’s getting worse and worse. I was walking to the book section noticed a dog coming a couple feet and seconds away so I quickly moved to the opposite side to create space. Kept walking hoping nothing would happen. Well the dog ended up charging us and the guy allowed the dog to hit the end of his leash coming within INCHES of attacking my service dog. Fidget has been attacked before and after 7 years of working he’s learned to watch his back and stay on alert in situations like this and I don’t correct or blame him for being distracted a couple minutes after interactions like this. After the dog came with inches I kept walking till I was at a distance and said it’s not pet friendly in here. The pet owner then had the AUDACITY to ask if his dog could say hi to mine. To say I was livid is an understatement. I honestly think if I wasn’t having a panic attack would of ripped him a new one. When I responded, No it’s not pet friendly in here he just said well you don’t have to be rude about it… I’m sorry what? You brought your OUT OF CONTROL pet to a non pet friendly place then get mad at me for calling you out on your bull sh*t and not letting my dog say hi to your out of control and unpredictable dog? People say service dog handlers are entitled but this is what we have to deal with day in and day out. A couple feet away I did run into a security guard who saw the whole thing. And I told him this is a service dog that is not and also said it was a lawsuit waiting to happen because it truly is. He did tell the guy to leave but he wasn’t escorted out, which I guess progress for something actually happening but it wasn’t fully completed. Not to mention on the way out I had to kick a pit bull away and injured my left knee. It’s ridiculous how bad the pet situation has been getting at Walmart and extremely dangerous to service dog handlers. @Walmart something needs to be done and fast.

Many service dog handlers report distressing experiences due to untrained or poorly controlled dogs. Service dogs are trained to assist individuals with disabilities, and interactions with aggressive or unpredictable pets can lead to dangerous situations. The American Disabilities Act (ADA) stipulates that service dogs must be allowed in all public areas, yet many establishments struggle to enforce proper pet policies. Education for pet owners on appropriate conduct in public spaces is crucial to prevent future incidents. Furthermore, companies like Walmart should consider training their staff to handle such situations effectively and protect vulnerable individuals. Awareness campaigns can help promote respect for service dog handlers, ensuring everyone feels safe while shopping. This issue is not just about personal encounters; it reflects broader societal challenges regarding pet ownership responsibilities. A collaborative approach between businesses, pet owners, and advocacy groups is needed to foster a more inclusive shopping environment.

That’s the worst and the people there probably think you’re being dramatic but it’s your dog and you don’t want them to get hurt. And him already getting attacked before is the worst
