Here’s how to spend a weekend in Marrakech

✨ 3 Days in Morocco 🇲🇦 ✨

Another quick escape while living in London — this time: Morocco! Just a short flight and suddenly you’re in the vibrant chaos of Marrakech. Here’s how I spent a jam-packed 3D2N adventure:

📍Day 1 – Marrakech Arrival

Landed in Marrakech and headed straight to Jardin Majorelle — a dreamy botanical garden filled with exotic plants, bold cobalt-blue architecture, and a serene energy that completely contrasts the city outside. Fun fact: it was once owned by Yves Saint Laurent 💙🌿

Later, we watched the sunset over cocktails at Kabana Rooftop 🍸 — v cute spot with good views of the medina rooftops and yummy cocktails.

Ended the day wandering through the Medina of Marrakech, the historic old town (a UNESCO World Heritage site!). Total sensory overload in the best way — winding alleys, vibrant souks, motorbikes zooming past, lanterns, spices, leather goods — chaotic but magical. Definitely unlike anywhere I’ve ever been.

🌄 Day 2 – Atlas Mountains Day Trip

Escaped the city for a day and drove out to the Atlas Mountains. Along the way we visited a traditional Berber village, rode camels (!!) 🐪 through the rocky foothills, and were welcomed into a local home for mint tea and a tagine lunch.

The fresh mountain air and slower pace were the perfect contrast to the energy of Marrakech.

🏛️ Day 3 – More Marrakech Must-Sees

Spent our last day diving deeper into the city’s rich history:

• Bahia Palace: stunning Moroccan architecture, tiled courtyards, and lots of photo ops

• Koutoubia Mosque: the city’s largest mosque with its iconic minaret

• Le Jardin Secret: a peaceful hidden gem in the middle of the medina

• Quick stroll through Souk Semmarine for last-minute shopping (and bargaining lol)

🌍 Final thoughts:

Morocco is so layered — colourful, intense, and deeply cultural. 3 days was short, but gave me just enough of a taste to want more. Def planning a longer trip to explore Fes, the Sahara, and beyond 💭

📌Save this for your next long weekend escape!

Walking is one of the best ways to experience Marrakech’s narrow streets and bustling souks; be prepared for sensory overload with spices, textiles, and local crafts that tell the story of Moroccan culture. For those interested in walking holidays or exploring more of the natural beauty beyond the city, the Atlas Mountains offer accessible trails with spectacular views. Taking a day trip to these mountains is a must, where you can interact with local Berber communities and enjoy peaceful mint tea ceremonies. Camel rides here provide a unique way to immerse yourself in the landscape's rugged charm. Back in the city, exploring landmarks like Bahia Palace and Koutoubia Mosque provides insight into Marrakech's historical and architectural beauty. Don’t miss out on Le Jardin Secret, a hidden oasis amidst the medina’s hustle. Shopping enthusiasts should dive into Souk Semmarine for an authentic bargaining experience, bringing home souvenirs that reflect the city's artistry. Lastly, embrace Marrakech’s vibrant street life by wandering through its lively streets both day and night, soaking in music, street food, and local traditions. This blend of cultural richness, historical sites, and natural beauty makes Marrakech a perfect weekend destination that leaves you eager to explore even more of Morocco.
