✨ Everything I Ate in Bangkok 🇹🇭🍜

A roundup of all my bites from this trip, rating everything so you know what’s worth the queue 👀

🥧 Yolk Egg Tart 8/10

Super flaky crust that shatters perfectly. Loved the pistachio version the most, nutty, creamy, chef’s kiss. The original had a caramel pocket that literally oozed out… indulgent but a bit sweet for me!

🍜 Rung Rung Pork Noodles 7/10

Comforting and simple, but nothing mind-blowing. The dry version reminded me of a mid bak chor mee, decent but not fantastic.

🍤 Thipsamai Pad Thai 7.8/10

PSA: Get the original pad Thai, not the one wrapped in egg.

The wrapped version uses thinner noodles and ends up wetter. The original has thicker noodles, better char, and a more savoury punch.

🍌 Samsorn Ice Cream 7.5/10

Tried the banana crème brûlée flavour and it was so good! Not too sweet, nice banana flavour, and the crumbly crust added the perfect texture.

🦐 Pe Aor Tom Yum Kung 7.5/10

Flavourful, tangy, aromatic broth with super fresh ingredients. A solid, appetising bowl that definitely hits the tom yum cravings.

🍚 Xin Ger Goi 7.8/10 (fried rice) & 7/10 (mushroom noodles)

The staff fried rice had good wok hei, fluffy grains, very satisfying. The mushroom noodles were fine but didn’t stand out.

✨ Overall

Bangkok never disappoints when it comes to food, so many hits. Let me know what I should try next trip! 😋🇹🇭

Bangkok
1/16 Edited to

... Read moreWhile I covered some of the popular eats, I found that Bangkok’s dessert scene offers hidden gems beyond the usual spots. For instance, 'Bad Poutine Bangkok,' a name that might sound out of place, actually serves a unique fusion take that intrigued me despite mixed reviews. If you’re craving something sweet with a twist, this could be a fun stop. Speaking of desserts, the creme brulee ice cream from Samsorn, a lesser-known highlight, really stood out with its perfectly balanced sweetness and textured crust — a delightful treat that balances traditional flavors with modern creativity. This style of ice cream isn’t widely found around the city, so it’s a special find for those looking for something different. At the renowned XXG Restaurant (often called Xin Ger Goi), I enjoyed great fried rice with excellent wok hei. While their mushroom noodles didn’t wow me as much, the restaurant is a reassuring option for hearty meals. It’s also a good spot to try classic Thai flavors done well. Next time you visit, I’d recommend exploring beyond typical street food markets and trying eateries like Puponfai & Zapponfai. Though not featured heavily in my ratings, their seafood offerings and local ambiance add valuable variety to the Bangkok food experience. Don’t hesitate to experiment with items that might seem unconventional or less hyped. Bangkok’s food culture is vibrant and diverse, offering great surprises even in unexpected dishes. Also, bouncing off what locals recommend or what you see buzzing on social media can often lead you to your new favorite bite.
