✨Woofing 9-5 ✨
Been working overtime too. Treats don’t pay for themselves. 😆
Okay, so you saw my little post about my Shiba's "Woofing 9-5" grind, and honestly, it's become a running joke in our house! People often ask what exactly a dog does for a "job," and for my Shiba, it's a full-time commitment to being adorable, demanding cuddles, and, of course, earning those precious treats. Let me give you a peek into what my Shiba's "workday" actually looks like. It starts bright and early, usually around 7 AM. His first "task" is to gently (or not so gently, depending on his hunger levels!) wake me up for breakfast. He's very good at his job – can't argue with those puppy dog eyes! After breakfast, we usually go for our morning walk, which I consider his "commute" to the park. It's essential for burning off some energy before his main "shift" begins. From about 9 AM to 1 PM, while I'm doing my human 9-5, he's mostly on "supervision duty." This involves napping in various sunbeams, occasionally "patrolling" the house for dropped crumbs (a very important job!), and making sure I'm still at my desk. I've found that enrichment toys are lifesavers during this time. A Kong filled with peanut butter or a puzzle feeder keeps him engaged and mentally stimulated, so he's not just bored. That's how he "earns" his mid-morning snack! Around lunchtime, we have a short training session. This is where he truly puts in the "work" for his treats. We practice basic commands like sit, stay, come, and sometimes learn a new trick. He's incredibly smart, and you can almost see the gears turning in his head as he figures things out. He knows if he performs well, a delicious reward is coming his way. It's amazing how motivated dogs are by food! The afternoon shift, from 2 PM to 5 PM, often involves more napping, but also some active playtime. We'll play fetch in the garden or have a good tug-of-war session. It's crucial for him to get physical exercise, not just mental. Sometimes, during my breaks, he'll demand a quick cuddle session, which I guess is his way of ensuring I'm still paying attention to his needs. He's basically my furry HR manager! As the workday wraps up for me, his "Woofing 9-5" also comes to an end, usually with a final walk and then dinner. He's exhausted but happy, having successfully "earned" another day's worth of treats and affection. It’s not just about giving him treats; it’s about making him feel like he contributes and has a purpose, even if that purpose is just being the best boy. For anyone else with a "working" dog, I highly recommend establishing a routine, incorporating mental stimulation with puzzle toys, and making time for dedicated training sessions. It makes a huge difference in their overall happiness and behavior. And always remember, those treats are well-deserved! My little Shiba proves every day that while treats don't pay for themselves, they sure are a great motivator for a hard day's "woofing" work.
