Blinged softball
Took me forever it’s not perfect but i know how to make them now!
Hey everyone! I'm so excited to share my latest DIY project with you all – my very own blinged-out softball! It took me a while to get the hang of it, but now that I've figured out the best way to make them, I want to share my experience and tips so you can create your own sparkly masterpiece. First off, let's talk about why I even wanted to bedazzle a softball. For me, it's all about personalizing my gear and showing off a little extra team spirit. Plus, who doesn't love a bit of sparkle? I'd seen those gorgeous rhinestone softballs online and always wondered how they were made, so I decided to dive in and learn myself. What You'll Need: A Softball: Of course! Make sure it's clean and dry. Rhinestones: I used flat-back rhinestones in various sizes (SS10, SS16, SS20 are good starting points) to get a nice textured look. You can choose any color to match your team or personal style. Strong Adhesive: E6000 is my go-to for this kind of project. It's durable and holds rhinestones securely. Wax Pencil or Tweezers: Essential for picking up and placing those tiny rhinestones. Small Dish/Tray: To hold your rhinestones. A Toothpick or Applicator: For applying glue. Rubbing Alcohol & Cotton Swabs: For cleaning. My Step-by-Step Blinging Journey: Clean the Softball: This is crucial! I wiped down the entire surface of the softball with rubbing alcohol to remove any dirt, oils, or residue. This helps the glue adhere better. Plan Your Design (or don't!): For my first one, I didn't get too fancy with a pattern. I just started with full coverage. However, you could sketch out a design with a pencil if you want to add stripes, initials, or a logo. Apply Glue in Small Sections: This is where patience comes in. I learned quickly that applying too much glue at once causes it to dry before you can place all your rhinestones, or it gets messy. I squeezed a small dot of E6000 onto the softball, just enough for about 5-10 rhinestones. Place the Rhinestones: Using my wax pencil (a lifesaver!), I carefully picked up each rhinestone and placed it onto the glue. I tried to place them as close together as possible, varying the sizes slightly to fill in gaps. Work in rows or small clusters, whatever feels most comfortable. Repeat, Repeat, Repeat: This is the most time-consuming part. I worked my way around the entire softball, section by section. It took me several sessions over a few days to complete. Don't rush it! Let it Cure: Once all the rhinestones were placed, I left the softball in a safe, undisturbed spot for at least 24-48 hours to allow the glue to fully cure. E6000 needs time to bond properly, and you don't want any rhinestones popping off prematurely. Tips and Tricks I Learned Along the Way: Less is More with Glue: Seriously, a tiny bit of E6000 goes a long way. Too much and it oozes out and makes a mess. Varying Sizes: Using a mix of rhinestone sizes (like SS10, SS16, SS20) helps fill in all those tiny gaps and gives your softball a really professional, full look. Work in Good Lighting: Trust me, you'll see every little space and misplaced rhinestone better. Consider a Template: If you're doing a complex design like a number or a logo, printing out a template and lightly tracing it onto the ball with a pencil can be super helpful. Don't Touch While Drying: Resist the urge to poke or prod at your rhinestones while the glue is curing. Give it ample time. This project was challenging but so rewarding! Now I have a unique, sparkling softball that truly stands out. It's a great way to personalize your game and show off your creative side, just like finding cute softball nail designs or trying out those fun softball hairdos for game day. Have fun blinging!
