From my experience as someone who has attended both wedding and boudoir photography sessions, I can attest that these two specialties demand very different approaches and skill sets. Wedding photography requires the ability to capture live moments on the fly, often in unpredictable lighting and fast-moving scenarios. You need to be quick, adaptable, and able to tell a story through candid and posed shots alike. On the other hand, boudoir photography is more intimate and controlled. It involves creating a comfortable environment where the subject feels confident and empowered. Lighting, posing, and mood are carefully crafted to highlight beauty and personality. When I was booking a photographer, I initially thought any photographer could do both. However, after speaking with professionals and reviewing portfolios, I realized it’s crucial to find someone who specializes in the style you want. For example, a wedding photographer might not have experience in creating the delicate and sensual atmosphere needed for boudoir shoots. Always ask to see a portfolio of actual work rather than staged examples, and read reviews from past clients to understand their experience. Some photographers do cross specialize, but it’s best they have proven expertise in your desired genre. Overall, doing your research helps set expectations and ensures your photoshoot is a positive, rewarding experience. Whether it’s capturing your big day or celebrating yourself through boudoir, having a professional with the right skills makes all the difference.
