Making dua in your Sujood

Sujood, the prostration in Salah, is often described as the moment a Muslim is closest to Allah. It's a profound position of humility and devotion, and what we say during this sacred moment can truly transform our prayers. Like many of you, I initially only recited "Subhana Rabbi Al Alaa" three times, thinking that was all there was to it. But then I discovered something that truly made me realize: "THIS WILL CHANGE YOUR SALAH FOREVER!!" While the basic recitation, "Subhana Rabbi Al Alaa" (Glory be to my Lord, the Most High), is essential and sufficient, the beauty of Islam lies in its richness. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) taught us that sujood is a prime time for making dua, as our supplications are most likely to be accepted. Imagine, "all of our duas will be accepted by Allah" if we know what to say! One incredibly powerful dua, often highlighted for its immense benefits, is the supplication of Prophet Yunus (Jonah) AS. You might have seen it mentioned: "La ilaha illa anta Subhanaka inni Kuntu mina Dhalimeen" (There is no God but You, glory be to You, indeed I was among the wrongdoers). This powerful plea acknowledges Allah's oneness, glorifies Him, and humbly admits one's shortcomings. It's a comprehensive prayer for forgiveness and seeking Allah's aid, and reciting it in sujood is a profound way to connect with your Creator. Beyond this specific dua, you can make personal supplications in sujood in any language, asking Allah for whatever is in your heart. Whether it's for guidance, health, provision, or relief from hardship, sujood is your direct line to Allah. I remember when I first started pouring my heart out during sujood; it felt like a heavy weight was lifted, and my Salah became so much more meaningful. It's an intimate conversation, a moment of complete surrender. There are also other beautiful duas recommended to say in sujood, such as seeking forgiveness: "Allahumma ghfirli thambi kullahu, diqqahu wa jillahu, wa awwalahu wa akhirahu, wa alaniyatahu wa sirrahu." (O Allah, forgive all my sins, the minor and major, the first and last, the apparent and the hidden). Now, let's also address what to say "between two sujoods." After rising from the first prostration and sitting briefly before the second, it's Sunnah to say "Rabbighfirli, Rabbighfirli" (O Lord, forgive me, O Lord, forgive me). A slightly longer and comprehensive dua for this position is: "Allahummaghfirli warhamni wahdini wajburni warzuqni wa 'aafini." (O Allah, forgive me, and have mercy on me, and guide me, and comfort me, and provide for me, and grant me well-being). So, how do you incorporate all this? After reciting "Subhana Rabbi Al Alaa" three times, you can then add any of these recommended duas, including the powerful "La ilaha illa anta Subhanaka inni Kuntu mina Dhalimeen," and then make your personal duas.
