2025 Reads - Son of the Morning by Akwaeke Emezi

Thank you to Avon and Harper Voyager and NetGalley for this gifted Arc. I absolutely loved this. This is a first by this author for me and I ate it up. The characters the world the magic the writing, I loved it all. I was hooked from the beginning, the secrets that unspooled and the magic that is found the FMC finally becoming who she’s meant to be despite the secrets and the lies ✨chefs kiss✨and the spice omg the spice.

if you want to HURT, pick up the death of vivek oji by one of my favorite (if not my very favorite) authors, akwaeke emezi. it uses a non-linear timeline to follow the thread of young vivek’s life, watching him grow up and the grief that follows after his death. it’s absolutely beautiful.
