2026 Read - A Menaces Blessing by Theresa Reese

*SPOILERS* I enjoyed this upon until the last 2 chapters. What sense does it make for Misa to take Mehki when her whole life is going up in flames and people are trying to kill her. She noted that it looked like he was being well taken care of and instead of figuring out her shit and then coming back for him once everything was over she just took him. I understand the rage and the rash decisions due to her trauma and the relationship with her mom but she knew she would be putting him in danger. I’m so annoyed. And why did this need a second part seems like everything could’ve been wrapped in one book

... Read moreHaving finished AMENACE'S BLESSING, I found myself deeply conflicted about the decisions made by Misa, particularly regarding her choice to take Mehki during such a perilous time. From personal experience reading psychological thrillers, characters driven by trauma often make rash choices that can frustrate readers but also add authenticity to the story. What stood out to me is how Misa's protective instincts were at odds with the dangerous environment surrounding her. Although she acknowledged Mehki seemed well cared for, her decision to uproot him despite imminent threats felt like a moment of desperation rather than strategic planning. This reaction is something I have seen in other books where the protagonist's emotional turmoil drives the plot but risks alienating readers who crave logical progression. Moreover, the fact that the narrative extends into a second part felt unnecessary to me. The story could have achieved a powerful resolution within a single volume, avoiding the drawn-out suspense that sometimes diminishes engagement. However, sequels can also offer an opportunity for deeper exploration of characters and unresolved conflicts, which might appeal to fans wanting more depth. Overall, AMENACE'S BLESSING sparked important reflections about trauma, family dynamics, and survival instincts. For readers who appreciate character-driven stories with psychological complexity, this book presents a compelling journey, though it may not fully satisfy those who prefer tightly plotted conclusions. Sharing these thoughts could help fellow readers decide if this novel fits their taste and prepare them for its intense emotional rollercoaster.
