I loved the concept of this book, but Idk if it’s the narrators or the writing but I found this very cringe. Both the main characters were infuriating and the dialogue during spicy time gave me the ick. Thank you to Netgalley and Tantor Media for this gifted ALC.

When approaching a romance novel like Danielle Brooks’ 'A Lovey’s Bay Romance,' it’s important to remember how personal taste plays a huge role in how readers perceive the story and characters. I’ve found that books in this genre often rely heavily on character chemistry and authentic dialogue to draw readers in, so when either feels off or forced, it can really impact enjoyment. In this book, the moments intended to be intimate or "spicy" might come across as awkward or "cringe" due to either the narration or the writing choices. As someone who enjoys romance novels but also appreciates genuine character development, I've noticed that overly dramatic or unnatural dialogue can break immersion. This can leave readers feeling frustrated rather than engaged. Moreover, complex characters can sometimes be polarizing; if the protagonists are depicted with traits that irritate the reader, it’s harder to connect emotionally with their journey. That said, a story’s concept often sparks interest initially—like the setting in Lovey’s Bay or the promise of a compelling romance. For readers considering this book, I recommend looking at samples or listening to snippets of the narration first, if available, to see if the narrator’s style suits you. Also, checking multiple reviews helps balance perspectives because personal preferences vary greatly in this genre. Finally, supporting platforms like Netgalley is a great way to discover upcoming releases, but it’s always wise to temper expectations. Not every book will resonate, but every review helps authors and publishers better understand their audience. Sharing honest feedback, both positive and negative, contributes to a richer reading community and guides future content.
