... Read moreOh, Leia, you really outdid yourself this time! If you watched my latest video, you know the struggle was real trying to get our beloved husky, Leia, to leave the beach. She truly decided she owned that patch of sand, planting herself firmly and refusing to budge, even as the sun set. 'There is no daylight left to burn!' I found myself exclaiming, practically begging her to acknowledge that we had to go. It was one of those moments where you just sigh and wonder if your dog has suddenly forgotten all their training! As a 'Siberian Derpskies' parent, I've learned that this kind of stubborn 'planting' behavior isn't just Leia being Leia; it's classic husky! These beautiful, independent creatures often have their own agenda. One minute they're showering you with affection, the next they're giving you the stink-eye because you dared to suggest it's 'time to go.' I even tried bribing her with treats, just like I do with Archer and Bug when they're being particularly cheeky. 'Good girl, Leia, can we please go home?' I pleaded, but she was having none of it. She apparently liked the texture of the sand too much, and nothing was going to break that focus! So, what do you do when your husky decides to become a permanent fixture on the landscape? Patience, folks, is absolutely key – and a good sense of humor helps! We finally made some progress, inch by painful inch, but it certainly wasn't a quick exit. I've found that sometimes, you just have to out-wait them, or find that one magical command or a particularly high-value treat that breaks their spell. Leia knows I'm bluffing sometimes, especially when it comes to leaving a fun spot. She's so perfect, she's never made a mistake ever... or so she thinks when she's ignoring my pleas! Dealing with a husky who's decided to 'plant' often requires a mix of strategies. Firstly, positive reinforcement is always your best friend. Even if they're being stubborn, when they finally take a step, shower them with praise and perhaps a small treat. Secondly, sometimes a change of scenery or a sudden new sound can break their focus – though Leia seemed immune to the approaching car in the video! Thirdly, making it a game can sometimes work. Instead of pulling, try to entice them with playful commands or by running a short distance away. Lastly, consistency in training from a young age is crucial. While huskies are notoriously intelligent, their independence means they need clear boundaries and consistent expectations. It’s not always easy, but honestly, these 'derpy' moments are what make owning a husky so unique and rewarding. From Leia's epic beach stand-off to Archer's watchful glares and Bug's innocent charm, every day is an adventure. You learn to appreciate their strong personalities and find creative ways to encourage them. And yes, sometimes, you just have to accept that they're the boss of the beach... or the park... or the living room. It's all part of the love-hate relationship we have with these amazing, sometimes infuriating, dogs. If your dog has ever 'planted' themselves, you know exactly what I mean!
