... Read moreWow, what an incredible snow day! You know those spontaneous adventures that just turn into the best memories? That was exactly our weekend. Mother Nature truly delivered a perfect blanket of snow, and we knew immediately it was time for some serious snow tubing and sledding action. We quickly scouted out a great local snowy hill – the kind with just enough slope for speed but a nice long run-out at the bottom.
Getting ready was half the fun. Bundled up in our warmest winter hats and jackets, we grabbed our trusty snow tubes and headed out. There's something so invigorating about that crisp winter air, isn't there? The initial trek up the hill, pulling the tube behind you, is definitely a workout, but the anticipation makes it all worth it.
And let me tell you, the thrills began the moment we launched ourselves down! We had some epic runs, laughing all the way. One particular moment stands out: I swear I went airborne for a second! It was a blur of snow and speed, and then, *face plant*! I ended up lying face down in the snow next to my colorful tube, completely covered in powder. My cheeks were aching from smiling so hard. Luckily, no serious injuries, just a good laugh and plenty of snow down my collar! My little one, with their adorable freckles, thought it was the funniest thing ever, and we even managed to snap a quick selfie in the snow to capture the moment.
That wasn't the only 'crazy' bit. Watching someone else completely falling off a snow tube mid-air into a soft pile of snow was just pure comedy. It really adds to the adventure when things don't go perfectly, right? These are the moments that make for the best stories. We spent hours racing each other, building up speed, and then tumbling out at the end, covered in snow and utterly exhilarated.
If you're planning your own snow tubing escapade, here are a few tips I picked up:
Scout Your Spot: Look for a hill that's not too steep but long enough for a good ride. Check for clear run-outs and no hidden obstacles. If you're near a dedicated tubing park (like some of those bigger resorts, even if it's not a specific 'Mountain Creek'), they often have tow ropes and groomed lanes, which makes it super easy and fast to get back up the slope.
Gear Up: Warm, waterproof clothing is a must! Layers are your friend. Don't forget waterproof gloves, a hat, and good snow boots. Trust me, you'll be spending some time in the snow, whether intentionally or accidentally!
Safety First (but still have fun!): Always check for hazards. Make sure the landing area is clear. Teach kids how to safely get off the tube at the bottom. And yes, sometimes you might take a tumble, but that's part of the crazy sledding fun! Just make sure it's in a safe environment.
Bring Snacks & Hot Drinks: All that exertion and cold air will make you hungry and thirsty. A thermos of hot chocolate is a game-changer!
Capture the Moments: You'll want to remember these hilarious and thrilling times. A waterproof phone case or a GoPro can be great for capturing those speedy downhill runs and priceless wipeouts. Who knows, you might even get your own funny snow tubing gif-worthy moment!
Our snow tubing day was an absolute blast. It was a perfect reminder that sometimes the simplest fun, a bit of fresh snow, and good company are all you need for an unforgettable family fun adventure. Definitely planning our next snow day already!
