I Miss You Dad 💔

Four years ago today, at 4:07 a.m., I was woken up by the call that my dad was gone. I didn’t even get to say goodbye or be there.

He was my world. My protector. He taught me everything I know. The first person I ran to when I was sad.

The first person I ran to when I had the best news. The one I wanted to make proud.

Every day, it doesn’t get easier to live without my biggest cheerleader. I wouldn’t wish this kind of pain on my worst enemy.

This was our last photo together, just days before.

One thing I’ve learned is that grief is not a linear process — some days are heavier than others, and that’s okay. In the months following my dad’s passing, I found comfort in keeping his memory alive through little traditions we shared, like cooking his favorite meals or listening to the songs he loved. It helped ease the feeling of emptiness and made me feel connected to him, even if he’s no longer physically present. I also joined a support group where others shared similar losses. Hearing their stories and knowing I wasn’t alone in my grief was a crucial part of healing. It made me realize that though my dad is gone, the love and lessons he gave me continue to shape who I am. For anyone going through a similar loss, I recommend creating a memory box or journal filled with notes, photos, and mementos that remind you of your loved one. It’s a way to honor their legacy and find moments of peace in the sadness. The pain of losing my dad never fully fades, but with time, it becomes a part of my story rather than the whole story. I carry him with me in every accomplishment, every tough moment, and every joy, knowing he would want me to live fully and proudly.
