Ballpoint pen drawing

I'm so excited to share more about my journey with ballpoint pen art! There's something incredibly satisfying about transforming a simple everyday pen into a tool for detailed sketches. When I first started, I was amazed at the depth and texture you could achieve, especially for subjects like this detailed tree trunk or bark texture I'm currently working on. It’s all about building up those layers patiently! One of the core techniques for creating realistic detail with a blue ballpoint pen is shading, and for me, intense cross-hatching is a game-changer. You start with light, even strokes in one direction, then layer strokes in a perpendicular or diagonal direction. The more layers you add, the darker and denser the shade becomes.
