Hades claimed me

... Read moreOkay, so after seeing my quiz results – 'Hades claimed me!' – I couldn't stop thinking about our favorite son of the Underworld, Nico di Angelo! It was wild to see divine abilities like 'Shadow traversal' and 'spirit perception' pop up for me, along with 'necromantic resistance.' And that 'emotional withdrawal' fatal flaw? Totally hits different when you think about Nico's journey. It really makes you wonder, when does Hades truly claim Nico in the books, and what does that even mean for a demigod? For those who might be newer to the Percy Jackson universe or just need a refresher on Nico's backstory, his divine parentage isn't immediately obvious. In fact, for a good chunk of *The Titan's Curse*, Nico and his sister Bianca are just mysterious new demigods, rescued by Percy, Annabeth, and Thalia. They're initially thought to be children of a minor god or perhaps even legacies. It's a huge reveal in the series when we finally learn the truth. The big moment, the 'claiming' if you will, happens after Bianca's tragic death. Grief-stricken and angry, Nico unknowingly summons an army of skeletal warriors, revealing his true heritage as a son of Hades. This is a pivotal scene, happening in *The Titan's Curse*, specifically towards the end of the book. It's not a formal 'claiming' like some other gods do with a glowing symbol over their child's head at Camp Half-Blood. Instead, it's a dramatic, involuntary display of power driven by immense emotion, making it clear to Percy (and readers!) that Nico is no ordinary demigod. This event completely changes Nico's trajectory in the series, sending him on a path of self-discovery, resentment, and eventually, acceptance. The powers that come with being a child of Hades are pretty intense, and my quiz results definitely highlighted some of them. 'Shadow traversal' is a classic Nico move, allowing him to melt into shadows and travel vast distances almost instantly – super useful but also incredibly draining. 'Spirit perception,' or the ability to communicate with the dead and sense ghostly presences, is another key trait, making him the 'Ghost King.' And 'necromantic resistance' makes total sense; children of Hades would naturally have an affinity for, and perhaps a resilience to, the forces of the Underworld. But it's not all cool powers. The 'emotional withdrawal' fatal flaw hits home too. Nico carries so much pain and often pushes people away, a direct consequence of his past, his unique powers, and his father's reputation. Being a child of Hades often means being an outcast, misunderstood, and grappling with immense power and loneliness. It makes you realize how deeply intertwined a demigod's powers, personality, and even flaws are with their divine parentage. So, if you took that quiz and Hades claimed you too, you're in some powerful, albeit emotionally complex, company! What were your most surprising results? Did anyone else get similar divine abilities or fatal flaws?
