Finding the sun
I used to know where the sun lived,
somewhere behind my ribs,
warm enough to make the darkest days
feel temporary.
Then one day,
I watched it disappear.
Not all at once
just little pieces at a time,
until the light became something
I remembered
instead of something I felt.
Now I search for it
in places I used to call home,
in voices that don’t sound the same,
in mirrors where I barely recognize
the person staring back.
They say,
“It’ll get better.”
But they never tell you
how long the night can feel
when you’ve forgotten
what morning looks like.
Finding the sun is hard
when you’ve spent so long
learning how to survive the dark.
Some days
I don’t find it at all.
Some days
I only find a tiny crack

Maybe the sun
