... Read moreYou guys always comment that I should run with Arisa, and honestly, you're the reason this whole 'first and last sister run' even happened! I know @Rissypoo isn't exactly a fan of cardio, but after all your encouragement, I finally convinced her to hit a trail with me. She did agree last night, but getting her ready this morning was a whole other challenge – lots of dragging feet and 'are we really going?' I even picked a shorter, seemingly easier route than my usual, a 1.3-mile trail (though it secretly turned out to be 1.9 miles, shhh!). The trail itself was a museum trail, recommended by one of my commenters, with cool oil rigs to look at, which I thought might distract her. Spoiler: it didn't completely work! The first half was brutal – entirely uphill with barely any sun coverage, making it super hot. We were already sunburnt from a pool day, so that didn't help. Arisa's 'malicious compliance' was on full display; there was definitely lots of walking involved! We had some hilarious moments, though. Arisa declared she needed 'brain rot' breaks – never thought I’d be taking those on a run! And every time I filmed her walking, she'd pretend to be a 'hot new bombshell entering the villa,' which honestly cracked me up. We saw eagles flying around, but also had to watch out for rattlesnakes on the trail – definitely keeps you alert! The signs on the trail were too old and worn to read, which was a bit of a bummer, but the oil rigs were interesting. Looking at my Strava stats later, we covered 1.91 miles at an average pace of 19:17/mi, with challenging elevation gain. My Nike React x infinity run 4 shoes did their best to keep me comfortable, but even they couldn't magic away the uphill struggle. Arisa swore she didn't have any fun, but I beg to differ – we made memories, right? She was incredibly relieved to make it back to the car, and I think it's safe to say this was truly our first and last sister run. If you're thinking of dragging a non-runner friend or sibling out, here's my advice: pick a scenic route, manage expectations (lots of walking will happen!), and be prepared for some dramatic flair. It might be challenging, but the stories and laughs are totally worth it. Who knows, maybe one day Rissypoo will forgive me and we'll try again... or maybe not! But for now, we're both just trying to recover from the sunburn and the sheer exertion of our epic 'first and last' running adventure.
