Tips on Getting Rid of Bad Nail Habits?

Hello, Lemon8 Fam! 🍋🫶

I decided to share my nail-care journey with y'all today! They look SO different! 🤩 I am looking forward to any tips you guys may have for me! 💡(and EVERYone else who's going through the same 🥹)

⏳️ A little background from where I'm coming from- I've been struggling with a really bad habit of picking on my nails and cuticles. 😓 And it led my nails and hands to look super gross, and be VERY painful! 😬 There's a lot of dead skin, blood, and a bunch of nastiness ALL the time and I just COULDN'T help it! 😮‍💨🙄

🧤🧴BUT, recently I found a trick of putting lotion on my hands and keep them covered with the disposable gloves, and this trick has done WONDERS for my nails! 🥹💅

🎥And THIS👆 was the video of me doing it for the 1st time RIGHT after filing my nails to make this perfect shape! 😁 (before, my nails used to be an almond shape 😅)

❓️So again, what are some helpful tips that you might have? And have any of y'all every went through what I'm going their right now? What was THE change you made that changed the condition of your nails? I'm curious! 🙃🤭

... Read moreI totally get it! When my nails were in that 'mis-shapen and dull' state, and my cuticles were just plain gross, it felt like there was no way out. It’s not just about how they look, right? The pain, the constant worry about how your hands appear, and the cycle of picking or biting can be so draining. I realized that for me, a lot of it was linked to stress and anxiety, or sometimes just pure boredom. Understanding why I was picking was the first big step in my nail-care journey. Beyond the immediate pain and unsightly appearance, these habits can lead to some serious issues. Think about infections – those open wounds around your nails are a perfect entry point for bacteria. I also worried about long-term damage to my nail beds, which can affect future nail growth. If you've ever had a hangnail that just won't heal, you know the struggle is real! My trick with the lotion and gloves has been a game-changer for physical healing, but I’ve also picked up other strategies that have helped me immensely. One thing that made a huge difference was identifying my triggers. Was I stressed? Bored? Watching TV? Once I knew, I could substitute the habit with something else. For example, keeping a fidget toy or even just a stress ball handy. For those moments when you just need to do something with your hands, chewing sugar-free gum has been a surprisingly effective nail biting deterrent for me. Another tip I swear by for healing those bad cuticles and preventing new hangnails is consistent moisturizing, not just with hand cream, but with a dedicated cuticle oil. I carry a small rollerball with me everywhere. Gently massaging it in several times a day helps keep the skin soft and less prone to tearing. And when it comes to pushing back cuticles, always use a soft tool, like an orange wood stick, after a shower or bath when they're softest – never cut them! Cutting can actually make them grow back thicker and harder, which just fuels the picking cycle. If you’re trying to grow bitten nails in one week, that might be a tough goal, but consistent care will lead to healthier, longer nails over time. Protect your nails when doing chores by wearing gloves (hello, my original trick!), and try to avoid harsh chemicals. I also noticed a difference when I started paying more attention to my diet, making sure I was getting enough biotin and protein. Healthy cuticles, for me, mean they are soft, non-red, and lie flat against my nail plate, unlike the dry, torn mess I used to have. This journey is all about patience and self-compassion. It's not an overnight fix, but seeing my nails transform from being "gross" to being healthy and strong has been incredibly rewarding. Keep experimenting with different strategies, and don't be afraid to ask for support – we're all in this together!

Sometimes all you’ve to do is to take care of your hands like how you take care other parts of your body. Like face with skincare and makeup. So, with hands I’d have my nails done either myself or tech. Also, put lotions with a nice scent

You should get an all natural anti biting nail polish. They sell them on Amazon and when you go to bite them, it tastes bitter but it won’t make u sick because it is all natural 🥰
